Windows 7 or Windows Vista?

I'm going to be adding another 4 gigs of ram to my Vista Ultimate 32bit machine, so i will be upgrading to 64 bit, and I was wondering if I should go whole hog and just go 64bit Windows 7. I tested it and liked it, and many of the programs I tried seemed to be compatible. I've also heard that it is more stable than Vista, but I'm worried about compatibility, and since this will be my first experience with 64 bit, is it too much to put on my plate right now? Any advice is appreciated (except for those saying I should just stay with 32 bit, I will put this new ram in)

Hello Gsparx, and welcome to Seven Forums.

With 4GB of RAM, I would go with the 64-bit OS if you have 64-bit drivers available for all of your devices. If so, then why not have both 64-bit Windows 7 and 64-bit Vista installed in a dual boot setup.

I too would go with 7 x64. I have yet to find a driver which does not work/install since I started going with build 7000. It seems the availability of x64 drivers and the issues which once surrounded them is now a thing of the past. It wont be long before x64 is the mainstream.

Go with x64 win 7.There's nothing better about Vista and all of the programs i use on 7 work just like they should (except for Daemon tools lite).

+ Dido. . .can't go wrong with either one. If you have a virtual machine program you can run Vista 64, and test drive Win 7. But the dual boot is the way to go (mine is set up with win 7 - 7000 x64, 7077 x64 dual boot, and Vista x86 in virtual box). For some reason couldn't get Vista x64 to boot up in virtual, hence, x86.

Windows 7 X64 should you go... Not Vista anymore unless u need a program which doesn't run in 7

If you intend to play games that require Punk buster then I would install Vista as Windows 7 doesn't work with it yet, dual boot is the way to go.

I'd agree with all the other posters X-64.

In fact I'd go further -- if your CPU is 64 bit capable why even BOTHER with the 32 bit OS.

Most hardware now will work on X-64 W7 (if it works on W7 at all that is - and if it doesn't it soon will do in most cases).

I've made another post on these boards showing how you can print from a W7 X-64 bit machine to a printer connected to a machine running a 32 bit OS such as Windows XP without any problems or even to one of those stand alone Network printers.

Got one 11 inch laptop Philips X59 (Twinhead F11Y clone) with t5520 dual processor but only 1 GB RAM in it -- still installed W7 X-64 build 7077. Works a treat -- even runs Photoshop CS4 OK.

I was going to "retire" this laptop as VISTA never ran well on it - W7 X-64 works just fine.

Awesome, thanks guys. I think I will go with Windows 7 X64. I might dual boot Vista if the need comes up, but ill just stick with 7 now. I think all of my stuff is fairly new, so I hopefully won't have any driver problems. I'm a little wary about dual booting cause back when I tried to dual boot XP with Vista I messed up my whole drive and lost everything, the hard drives even became unusable, couldn't reformat or anything. Don't ask me how, I wasn't as experienced then, but I hear that XP and Vista don't play well together. Can anyone comment on the ease of dualing Vista and 7?

Oh, and since I'm going to be reinstalling games, is it possible to copy my savegames from Vista to 7? Are the savegames compatible?

Sorry, one more question. Would it technically be illegal to download a copy of Windows 7 build 7077 seeing as it hasn't actually been released?

Yes I think it is possible to take your saved Games from Vista to 7, search for it...

The Law depends country wise... If u want to download u can from a Torrent site (Just Google it)
