Windows 7 Pro x64 explorer.exe crashing

I never had ie8 crash until i read a thread about how much faster it would run with goggle chromeframe BHO addon installed. Once i did this I then started getting crashes with the heap corruption. so I disabled it and nomore crashing.

In the OP's (Porkrinds's) case it's Explorer.exe that's crashing, not IExplore.exe. His memory dumps don't show much left that's non-default. nVidia control panel stuff, from memory, but that's about it. A curious situation, doubly so because of the recent "heisenbug" development.
Sorry for the misunderstanding of the Op's post. fabe

sigh i have the same issue and could actually reproduce it by right clicking on the "same folder" and it occurring randomly while trying to enable the debugger. then it even crashed for me while setting the flags. then when i attached the debugger it stopped... i was even careful to avoid any different patterns of operations i was doing and kept crashing it every 10-15 seconds...

I have the same issue with W7 x64 Sig edition.

I have moved the explorer.exe to system32 and it made no difference.

I'm getting at least 5 explorer.exe crashes a day.

Because I'm hosting one of the release parties, they have a priority support ticket number. I've just been on the phone for an hour and the support guy took over my system, looked in the event viewer, did an sfc/ scannow and tried to get me to replicate the crash. Of course there was no crash when he was in my system while I was on the phone to him (sods law)

I am to use my system as normal over the weekend then contact him again on Monday by which time he will have done some research on the problem and check the crashes that I have over the weekend.

I was using build 7100 with zero problems before I got the Signature edition.

I'll report back on Monday to see what (or if there is one) the solution is.

I don't really want to host a party and be showing people my system with it crashing when I show them libraries.

LOL - Heisenbug! Thanks, H2SO4. Good to know that Quantum Physics has a place in comp sci. I'm following this thread and trying to understand, also having similar problems; stand by for info.

Question - does this forum's protocol recommend I start my own thread, even though the problem is similar? Should I "move" my 410607-post26 to this thread? I don't want to hijack anyone's thread, I'm just a noob searching for guidance.

(edit: I've created a new thread for my problem - sorry to all for hijacking porkrinds' thread. http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-debugging/43238-win7-x64-persistent-explorer-exe-crashes.html#post414905 )

Most often similar issues are not identical. And trying to help with similar issues makes for confusing instructions in a single thread.

Individual threads can be "related" by posting links to similar threads - and that may help to fix the issue and reduce the amount of work.

hi all,

stumbled on this thread while looking for a solution to a similar prob.
(random explorer crashes and mmc.exe crashing, unable to open mmc)

I just bought this system so it is fairly virgin....(win 7 home premium 64)
I installed power iso and thought that to be the cause.
after the install every time I right clicked on an iso file the explorer crashed...any other filetype was fine though...
but I deinstalled it - yet no avail. right click however works again...

it may be that windows finally became more than the mere sum of its parts....

I tried the seemingly magical formula
gflags /i explorer.exe +hfc

et voila ! I swiftly could open mmc which was impossible before.
have yet to test if the explorer will crash though....none so far...

afterward I even tried
gflags /i explorer.exe 0xFFFFFFFF

and I still can open mmc

...just thought to let you know ... it seems you found a way to prove the quantum physics theory by observing the explorer(hmm is there a pun hidden in here).....makes you wonder what goes on in that microsoft code....mind you I gave up on trying to figure that out long ago haha

thanks for your time...lets hope it really helped and I can access mmc now .... then I won´t question it, just accept it (;

...I gather a submission to the Nobel Price committee to be appropriate
