I have a toshiba satellite c655 laptop with windows 7 64bit going thru some issues right now. Long story short, windows wont boot. I've tried a myriad of repair options with no success, and am now trying a burned repair disc from another windows 7 64bit computer. I boot from the disc, and everything is fine. I hit the first 'next' button. When it reaches the second menu screen that's supposed to show your OS, it just doesnt load. The cursor becomes a little blue circle that shows its loading, but never does. I left it there for at least 10 hrs to no avail. Is it just a bad burn, or is something else wrong?

ok. I've downloaded both suggestions, and I'm gonna try the memory test first. I'll make sure to post the results.

Ok. So I ran the memory test. I ran it 7 passes as suggested. Everything came back fine. No errors at all

Well, my problems started about 2-3 weeks ago. I was updating some programs and scanning my computer which I do about once a month (cc cleaner, malwarebytes, avg 2012, and spybot search/destroy to be exact). I've done it plenty of times before with no issues, but not this time. When all was done, I tried to access the internet, but it didnt work. After trying a few other programs that didnt work, I decided to restart. Windows hasnt booted since. I've tried everything I know.

Repair your computer, all three safe mode options, last known configuration, all didnt work. At first, they either got stuck at the windows screen, or in the case of safe mode, would show the screen loading all the drivers, stall there, and then quickly flash a blue screen before restarting. Ever since i tried the repair disc, all other options now get stuck at a black screen with only a mouse pointer. Luckily, I found out about Ubuntu, and have been able to retrieve some important files.

Ok. So I tried the seatools, and ran into a new issue. I booted from the CD, the end user license agreement comed up, and I accept. It starts scanning for devices, and it recognizes my harddrive. However, my laptop mousepad no longer works, and I cant start a test. After about 15 seconds, it just ends, and goes to a black screen that thanks me for using seatools. This is driving me crazy

Did you download SeaGate for DOS directly from the link I gave?

You must download the DOS version and not the Windows version.

Yes. I'm positive. Right from the link you gave. I just redownloaded it and re-burned it just to make sure, and got the same results

I'll ask a couple of others to take a look as I've never run across this. My only present idea is that the power supply unit is going out.

When you boot up the computer, do you hear any beeps?

Reset the bios to defaults.

I haven't heard any beeps or anything like that. Everything sounds normal.

I'm gonna visit the Toshiba website and figure out how to restore BIOS to default. In the meantime, thank you for all of your help so far. I really appreciate it

Is the HD detected in BIOS setup? Check now. While in BIOS reset to defaults: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

If HD shows up in BIOS then try Seatools by booting Ultimate Boot CD (UBCD) from a USB flash drive | USB Pen Drive Linux. If it fails try unplugging CD drive to see it it is problematic. If not then burn another CD using ImgBurn.

Work through other these steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot

If HD doesn't show in BIOS, replace it, then Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

Replace AVG bloated crapware with Microsoft Security Essentials and ancient Spybot with Malwarebytes.

Normally with Toshiba:
PowerDown
PowerUp
Immediately start tapping the F2
You will end up in the bios interface.
F9 key will restore defaults
F10 key will Save and Exit.

To gather info, use Speccy (my favorite) or SIW or System Info

In the System Manufacturer Block, enter:
Ø Manufacturer and Model OR Custom build.
Ø ADD the word laptop, desktop, netbook or tablet.
For example:
Toshiba Satellite L305D notebook.

Provide full windows version info, for example:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader,
Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor, etc

Scroll down and click on SAVE CHANGES.

With Speccy, you can select with your mouse/touchpad info from the display
and paste that info into your specs.

SIW is a marvelous program, but the free version does not offer
this capability.

slick,
Put as much info as you can into your System Specs. That is where we to familiarize ourselves with a thread starter's system.

slick,
If your system is defective, then how are burning SeaGate Tools for DOS to a CD?

karlsnooks,

I'm using a seperate computer. I have another desktop in my house that the rest of the family uses. I've been communicating and downloading the suggested files on this computer and also using it to burn the CD's. also, if you're wondering, I used my friend's computer to burn my windows repair disc. He also has a windows 7 64 bit computer, so I used his to create the repair disc. The computer i'm currently using is 32 bit, so I know that doesn't work.
