Hi,

I'm new so be nice!

I've recently installed (evenutally) Windows 7. I say eventually because I have been having big problems with my monitor going into sleep mode.

Basically when I installed windows 7 it would go into the starting windows screen and then after that the monitor would go to sleep and not let you click anything.

I then rebooted the computer and pressed F8 to go into safe mode. No joy, the installation could not be completed in safe mode. So i rebooted again and tried to go into the computer in 640x480 mode. Success!

I was then able to complete the installation of windows. I then went to increase the screen res to the recommended 1280x1024. The computer thought about it and then put my monitor into sleep mode and then 10 seconds later rebooted my computer, forcing my POST screen to say "Hyper Transport Flood Error, press F1 to continue", or something like that.

I then realised that I hadnt installd my video drivers, so i booted back into windows (640x480) and went to install my graphics drivers (NVIDIA GTX 260), half way through the installation my screen went black, into sleep mode and then rebooted my computer.

I then booted into safe mode, which i can now do because i have completed the installation, and installed my graphics drivers. After this i booted back into normal windows with 640x480, checked my graphics had installed, and they had, and then windows said they recommend i change my res to 1280x1024, i did this and guess what... my pc rebooted!

I then rebooted again (640x480) and tried my graphics at 1024x768. Joy! it worked, i rebooted windows and let it go straight ahead without me pressing anything and it works fine!

The only problem is... how do I get a higher screen res than 1024x768??
I have the latest NVidia Graphics drivers and it worked fine in Vista and XP.

Thanks for your help and sorry for rambling on!

Hi.

Which monitor? Try a Windows Update to install the monitor's .inf. If not, you could likely find a driver for it on the manfacturer's site.

Set it to 1280 x1024 again now and it should be fine. Let us know how it went.

If not, check the refresh rate and set it to 60 Hz first.

I'm not sure, I dont know what monitor it is to be honest!
I bought it from ebuyer.com and it was about 4 years ago!
Windows itself has picked it up as LM17A.
Like i said, ive never had to install drivers for it before, i would seriously doubt it even came with any.

When I right click the desktop and goto screen resolution it says LM17A, but when i goto device manager and monitors it says generic pnp monitor.

I'm going to try and change it from Generic PnP Monitor to Digital Flat Panel 1280x1024 60Hz and see how it goes. I'll let you know!

Yeah, good find. I was thinking that myself. It wants to be set at 1024x768 as that's it native res.

I doubt it can even work well at a higher res but maybe.

Update :

I changed monitor on device manager to Digital Flat Panel 1280 x 1024 60Hz, and then res to 1280 x 1024 and it bombed out.

I then had to boot back up with last known good config, and its put me to 1024 x 768.

I think i am just going to accept that my monitor is a little dated and the higher res (1280 x 1024) wont work in Windows 7, but will work in Windows XP and Vista.

Thanks all for your help anyway :)

I had a similar problem with my new HP e9290f with a GTX 260 video card and a Viewsonic VX2835wm monitor. It turned out that nVidia messed up the driver for my monitor so it was recognizing it as a TV. Someone was nice enough to fix nVidia's driver for my by editing the HEX code and now it works. What monitor are you using?

I am using a monitor that i bought from ebuyer.com about 4 years ago, a bog standard 17" LCD, it does say on the website that it only support 1024 x 768, but it did 1280 x 1024 fine in vista and xp. It picks it up as a plug and play monitor on device manager but gets its correct model when you go on display properties

its an LM17A on display propeties, even though the back of the monitor on the label says LM17C, but i dont think i can find drivers for it anywhere
