Hi, sorry if i’m in the wrong area of the forum.

I tried to switch my laptop on yesterday and my computer froze on the Windows welcome screen. I waited for ages but it wouldn’t load so I switched it off by holding down the power button and tried to switch back on again. This time, it went to a Startup Repair screen. Waited for ages again and when the startup repair had finally finished it said it couldn’t be repaired. I have tried restarting loads of times since then and same thing happens. I got a message with all the error codes so I kept the details of this so I could determine the problem but I can’t find this exact error code/problem signature combination anywhere else.

Heres what it said:

Startuprepairoffline

Problem signature 1: 6.1.7600.16385

Problem signature 2: 6.1.7600.16385

Problem signature 3: unknown

Problem signature 4: 11

Problem signature 5: AutoFailover

Problem signature 6: 1

Problem signature 7: BadDisk

OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1

Locale id: 1033

Can anyone help I’d appreciate the advice.

Cheers.

p.s

I’ve tried booting with safe mode but still goes to startup repair, and I don’t have a windows 7 disk.

Can you enter "command prompt" there?
Code:
chkdsk/f c:
chkdsk/f d:
Check all your disks! And post results

I can't access command prompt at all, if i try to get safe mode with command prompt it goes straight to the startup repair screen again.

If I click F8 when booting my computer I can get a list of options;

Repair your computer

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Enable Boot Logging
Enable Low-resolution video (640x480)
Last known good configuration (advanced)
Directory Services Restore Mode
Debugging Mode
Disable automatic restart on system failure
Disable Driver Signature Enforcement

Start windows normally

Would any of these help? NOTE - if i choose any of the safe mode options same thing happens and it goes back to startup repair

After all above you have options like "system restore" and "command prompt".

I think its time for you to change your laptop hard disk. The hard disk could be having failure. I have this problem before. So I went to the IT shop to change the hard disk and get the newly installed windows 7.

Finally managed to start command prompt and do disk checks - 'Windows checked the file system and found no problems'

I got that window open, and tried System Restore - Apparantly I have no restore points :@

Also tried Windows Memory Diagnostic and once that had completed PC failed to start again.

Going to try the tutorial now... I'll report back when I'm done

With Partition Wizard (software explained in tutorial) tou can test the disk surface. How to perform partition surface test with partition manager? partition surface test help.

I think your disk is dying and Partition Wizard will test if I'm right. Did you backup important files already? Do it!

Yeah I tried that in command prompt, it said there were no problems.

I couldn't do the troubleshoot tutorial, no discs were burning properly, they won't even burn an ISO and I can't use a USB.

I'll try the partition wizard now, I think it's the hardware issue too.

Before I do... If I reset to factory settings would that work? or is there a risk of it not starting up again?

Thanks

Did you backup important files already? ... no answer yet. I don't care but most likely your harddrive is dying

chkdsk/r commands reported disk errors? ... no answer yet.

Why do a factory restore? First prove it is NOT a hardware problem!

No disk errors.=>so chkdsk/r is has already finished and reported no disk errors? These procedures take hours to complete! How come this has finished so fast!?

If you're so sure ... replace the faulty device.

After "restore to factory settings" you loose anything anyway. All your documents are gone now! Unless... the procedure fails before it started the destructive restore.
