If you give us the make and model of your computer, it may have a restoration partition. If it does we can use it to restore your computer the way it was when you took it home. I assume it did not have and SP1.
Richard, make wouldn't matter, because I had removed the restore partition years back when I was having disk issues and had hardware and system changes from the "original." But, it's an HP-Pavilion GN553AAR-ABA m9040n.
And now, even if I take it to bare metal, when I re-install Win-7 Ult it has the same issue that in any program or window that is based on the explorer shell, the text for any selected menu item is black -- regardless of the background color, and regardless of what color I actually selected in "Personalization", within which the text and colors look fine.
** BUT: I then tried my daughter's Dell laptop AND my own HP laptop, and have them same issues. When restored to initial settings, all is fine. BU, if I then go and change the Selected Items colors to, say, white letters on a dark background, it makes the text black, even though it looks white when being set.
HP told me that their only responsibility is to get it to "factory presets" and if there are issues after that, to call Microsoft.
I have the number for MS...when I called the first time, I gave them the serial number for my Windows, and they told me it was out of warranty. I thought I might try again, using the serial number for the "default" HP install, but I would have to restore that to the Home Premium that it came with and go from there. Maybe I'll have time later this week for that...
