Windows 7 Update Fail, Error 80073712

I was trying to upgrade to windows 8 Pro on my Lenovo G580, as I got my student license from my University. There started the problem, when trying to upgrade from the DVD (burnt ISO) the upgrade immediately sends "Setup failed to initialize the startup folder" error.

So after few searches, I found on lenovo website that I need to install all important updates first. That's where I found another problem, which is my thread about. I tried so many methods until I found this forum.

Few other problems I ran through while trying to fix it alone:

• Updating seems like stuck at 0KB total, 0%, and returns the same error after a while.
• Can't enter safe mode from F8, it gets stuck at some CPNP file while loading. However, I can enter the safe mode by choosing Safe Boot from Msconfig and restarting the system.
• Running CHKDSK from CMD [Admin] gave "F Parameter not specified, running in read-only mode", and then runs normally.
• Tried to download and install updates alone, they all fail when trying to install.
• One of the times where the update readiness tool was running, my pc encountered BSoD. And once when I was scanning with malwarebytes.
• SFC Scannow command scan returns that no violations in integrations where found.

Note: I just ran the SURT, it said installation successful after a while of running it!

Sorry for the late reply, It seems like my security softwares are malfunctioned! My Bitdefender services are not running, and malwarebytes is not starting up. Tried to use rkill, but it didn't change anything:

I reinstalled MBAM Free, removed some potentially unwanted files. I went to check my CBS folder and it was empty. Checked for updates, tried to install, the problem still exists. Now, I'm running windows update readiness tool.

I've read through my CBS log, and found on Microsoft website something that might be helpful:

If you get a Payload File Missing message, then the binary required is not available.

Steps to resolve this issue

1. Find out which payload files are missing by looking at CheckSUR.log. Identify any line that have (f) that is not followed by (fix).
   
2. You will need to get these files from another machine. Make sure the machine you are copying files from is the same OS version and system architecture.
   
3. Paste the files into the proper subdirectory under %windir%\winsxs

My missing file is: _DataOracleClientPerfCounters_shared12_neutral.h

But I don't have another machine to get it from.

Well, i do not have it too. But try to remove these programs completely from your computer. After you have done that then install Java again.

Thanks, I need to note this:

I contacted the support in microsoft website, the assistant remotely took control, and paste a reset.bat file on my desktop. The file ran and when we attempted to update, it failed. Then, she asked me to download "Tweaking.com" application. Downloaded it and ran the repairs. it took time and when it was done we rebooted the pc.

After booting up, the update worked differently, it reached 5% and seems like it got stuck there [same 7 updates, 150MB] . I stopped the updates after a while, and tried to run the SUR tool, it failed on launch with error number 0x80246002. I did a reboot and tried to run the SUR again and it resulted in BSoD.

Now after the BSoD, it still says the 0x80246002 error on launch.

Going to leave the update run for a while now, if not working, then I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling Java.

Edit: The update didn't finish so tried to go further with the new error. Used WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab and it showed this:

I tried to uninstall/reinstall java, and it didn't change anything.

Windows update currently take forever to download and install (0KB, 0%), so I stopped it. This results in the next error: 8007010B

The command you actually ran appears to be CHKDSK - and not SFC.

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file
