Windows 7 Update Fail, Error 80073712

The command you actually ran appears to be CHKDSK - and not SFC.
Please follow ALL the instructions here...

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file

Sorry for the confusion, but I didn't say it was SFC, I mentioned it was the CHKDSK running by reboot.

I guess my first post fulfilled the rules of posting. Should I collect the latest changes and update my first post??

This seems to be the critical error - a lot of the later ones are either similar or derivative.
I would suggest a full reset of Windows Update as first action

Tried to run file multiple times (admin and normal) it gets stuck:

One more thing, I tried to back up my files.. The back up failed saying it couldn't back up because the C:/<path> is corrupted..

Update: I've been able to install windows 8 Pro on an external HD partition (used Partition Assistant Windows to go feature). I tried to run chkdsk for my internal drive and success! It looks like it's going to take lots of time.

Will update soon, I'm expecting chkdsk to detect corruptions and fix them, then trying to update/back-up windows 7 should be working just fine.

Thanks a lot in advance, Laith & NoelDP, for your replies.

Edit: The results for chkdsk:

Nope, it didn't, yet*. I also ran SFC /scannow, no violations. Now running chkdsk /r, hope it works.

The fact that the earlier CHKDSK showed bad sectors tends to indicate that the disk may be failing.
I would back it up before attempting anything else!

I tried, but the backup failed to backup some files. Is there anything I can do? Should I just copy and paste? any recommended tools?

The number of bad sectors has increased from 2 to 6 - you definitely need to get your data safe, whatever else you do!

It may be that the files that failed were the ones affected by the bad sectors - or the sectors could form part of the MFT (which would be BAD news!)

Get that data copied now.

I have copied down my user data, and so far most of all are good.

I have one concern, now that I have windows to go on an external, and the main hard drive is dying, should I be concerned about getting my hard drive replaced? (what will happen when the internal drive ddies? can I still use the computer to boot externally?)
