I installed Windows 7 upgrade 32 bit from Vista a week ago on a HP Slimline only 2 years old with adequate capability. It ran but I got the error message "can't find "Dalio file.

I couldn't get on line until I clicked the error message - "to continue" - 3 times. It would then run. To fix the problem I installed Reg Cure as recommended. Then I got a series of other messages recommending numerous other downloads. Ran a scan and got a report of many problems to be fixed. Cured the problems. All seemed to work for several days then on Monday December 28, 2009 Windows apparently upgraded or downloaded automatically at 3:59 PM.

On Tuesday morning the computer would turn on and try to boot but just stop at - "installing windows". It continued to hours but didn't do anything.

I shut it down and restarted, tried the F8 and F-11 going through all suggestions. Tried system restore to previous dates. Nothing worked. It also said it couldn't fix the problem automatically.

I tried to boot with the Windows 7 CD. Reinstalled Windows 7. No success. It displays - " Starting Windows" - but won't continue. Cant boot up. can't get on line ?

Questions - what should I do next ?

Sounds fishy to me... Google was no help at all.
On the contrary, Google was a great help. He showed me that something weird is going on.

Sounds like you got victimized by a fake antivirus scheme involving "Dalio" and "Reg Cure". You probably made an error when you installed Reg Cure, which only infected you even more.

If you can ever even get into Windows safe mode, you might be able to make some headway by running Malware Bytes, Super Anti Spyware, or other legit malware applications. If not, reinstall from ground zero--set your BIOS to boot from DVD first, insert Windows 7 DVD, reboot, choose custom install, drive options/advanced, etc.

UPdate

Thanks all. Tried numerous proceduees and still unresolved.

I tried to reinstall Windows 7 and it won't. Got into the C prompt DOS and ran several things.

There isn't a hardware issue. The computer will boot up and run and display " Starting Windows " with the logo, colors and the whole complement. It will try to install from the CD. Monitor works, computer runs from screen to screen.

I tried everything on the F10 and F11 keys. restore, repair, restart, safe mode and everything else, one by one.

The one message I seem to be getting is that the installation can't be completed because a file is missing or corrupted. I'm not too clear about the file missing but it seems to imply that the file is on the installation disk ' I bought the Windows 7 from Costco and had it working for a week.

There was an issue with the Google tool bar from initial installation and a warning from Microsoft that Google may not run right.

There was a temperemental problem with the WINDOWS 7 from the beginning. It wasn't acting reliably. Now from all of the forum comments it seems evident that Microsoft has a signficant problem that is still unresolved. I suppose we should expect a "patch" some day.

I can't really do anything that I know of from DOS and the C prompt unless someone has a suggestion. And I can't log on to run any software.

Is there some other boot up software that can repair, or replace missing files ?

Fortunately the computer was a HP Slimline. I bought the "Pocket Media" external hard drive and saved most of my files on it. Vista did it automatically.

Jonathan: and Administrators:

Again thanks for your integrity and persistence. MUCH APPRECIATED !

Yes I tried system repair, it didn't do anything.

Today I returned my Windows 7 disk to COSTcO and obtained a new one. Same resuts - I can't install. *( COSTCO is superlative, no questions asked, they just took the old and issued a store credit which I used to buy a new version ).

Same result: The Microsoft product is eliminated from the problem !

I took the advice of one poster and created a recovery CD from an existing CD. Unfortunately I created it from a 64 bit program and applied it to a 32 bit computer and it was incompatible ! The poster failed to highlight the pitfall.

I'm coming to the conclusion that one poster surmised: Dalio may be in cahoots with Reg Cure in tampering with Windows 7 installations to sell software. If such is the case the Cyber Crimes unit of the agency should investigate. We need to ascertain if elements are issuing defective product or if opportunists are sabotaging for profit.

Assuming you want to do a clean install, you can try this. It will delete all existing partitions.

Back up your existing personal data files, bookmarks, email, mp3s, video, etc.

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD

1.Once Windows 7 Setup is loaded, press Shift + F10 keys at the first setup screen (which allows selection of language, keyboard and locale). A Command Prompt window will be opened.

2.Run Diskpart, the built-in disk partitioning tool of Windows 7 with the following command:

diskpart

3.Type in the following commands one by one, followed by the Enter key to create a partition (text in brackets are comments only):

list disk (to show the ID number of the hard disk to partition, normally Disk 0)

select disk 0 (change 0 to another number if applicable)

clean

create partition primary size=50000 (creates a partition with 50 GB space; to use the entire disk as one partition, omit the “size=value” parameter switch; use a similar command to create more partitions if needed or create in Windows 7 after installation)

select partition 1

active

format fs=ntfs quick

exit

4.Type exit at command prompt to close Command Prompt window.

5.Continue Windows 7 installation as usual. Remember to just highlight and select the partition just created when you come to the partition screen.

Nothing works

I have spent many hours over several days trying everyones recommendations and going to the F-10 and F-11 keys performng everytning there recommended.

I have tried to boot from the CD and nothing.

I went to the C: command - nothing.

System recovery - nothing.

System repair - nothing.

* One error message said: Windows 7 cannot repair automatically, file missing or corrupted, call the hardware manufacturer.

Remarkably, to me, I can actually pull up things on my hard disk, and read it from a window that opens in one of the diagnostic, remedial features but I can't access any files.

Here's what I have learned:

* The C: command doesn't understand any DOS commands except one - DIR.

* According to the Windows explanations in help - Windows 7 cannot be booted up from an " upgrade disk" !

I called HP tech support and asked for recovery disks. They are shipping a set to me, cost $16.29 including 5 to 7 day UPS shipping.

The recovery disks will remove Windows 7 and reinstall Windows Vists which came with the computer pre installed by the manufacturer. I'm OK with that, I'll just run it on Vista and use it as a backup computer.

In the meantime I bought a new HP computer Model p6207c with Windows 7 installed. It is operating just fine. No problems.

For the benefit of readers I suggest:

* Check to see if your computer has the systems requirements to run Windows 7 from an XP or Vista OS.

* Read the Windows recommendations before upgrading.

* Back up files. *( I use an external hard drive ).

* Scrub the system before installing. Run anti-virus and malware scans.

* Create, or purchase, recovery disks.

Upon reflection, I still do not know exactly what caused my problem. It developed as soon as I completed the Windows 7 upgrade *( Cannot find the Dealio file ). Reg Cur was, to me, a gimmick, a come on to sell software. It did cure the Dalio problem but recommended many other software manufacturers thus it was not a total cure at all.

Comment:
I HATE Dealio, whatever the heck it is. Somehow it got on my computer and I can't get rid of it. There isn't any toolbar. The stupid program somehow is redirecting all of my searches or pages through srch.dealio.com, and I can't uninstall it because it isn't in the list for add/remove programs. I have searched Google to no avail. It all recommend programs, each of which I download and it won't get rid of the problem. I am getting redirected to 404 messages when I try loading certain pages.. and my Firefox info on the bottom shows "srch.dealio.com" right before it gives the error. This is the same on IE and Firefox. So Vendio can go pedal their crap to someone else. I know it isn't "easily uninstalled." Could someone please help me get this crap off of my computer? Thanks!

My C: command *( black screen ) doesn't recognize DOS commands.

I don't have a Windows install disk. It is an upgrade disk and I cannot boot with it. There is a difference between an upgrade disk and an install disk. Some file(s) is/are missing in the upgrade version.

Windows 7 install is $179 at Costco.

Unfortunately I didn't burn Windows 7 recovery, sytem and other disks while it was working. But it will only cost me $16.29 to get recovery disks from HP.

Thanks for the offer. I'm open to suggestions. However, I already ordered the HP recovery disks and the order has been confirmed. They will be here in a few days. If that doesn't work I will sure want more help.

I can't get on line to download anything. I can't run anything through the C: command prompt as it doesn't respond to DOS commands.

No I haven't been able to get into the BIOS.

HP tech support tried their best to sell me an extended service as my computer is out of warranty but I think at this time my only option is a cd to boot from that will get me back on line. I really don't see any other option.

Addendum:

For those who are having problems with Windows 7 stalling, freezing or failing to boot up here is some more information:

After running through some more of the diagnostics available from the F-10 and F-11 keys I got another analysis report which said it found one problem - " boot configure corrupted.

I will have to agree that Dialio seems to be a major culprit in this adventure. Don't know how it got on my computer. It has been operating for almost two years and the Dialio tool bar only appeared about a month ago. I didn't know what it was and don't know how it got on there. It may have somehow piggybacked on some other download or it may have self installed.

I thought I had good security and ran scans often. They came up either clean or with some small numbers of problems that were fixed. However, after installing Reg Cure and downloading some other recommended software "fix it" they reported almost 200 problems that they fixed" !!!!!!!

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

It seems that the problem many are experiencing with freezing and booting up is located in the Boot configure. If the computer freezes and you can't get on line, obviously you can't download any remedial software. In any event I am very skeptical of these "fix it" programs both freebies and for purchase. Personally I prefer to either get a Microsoft Windows 7 installation disk or a recovery tool from the computer manufacturer. These are OEM's.

Upon installing the Windows 7 upgrade from Vista, which came on the computer, immediately I got an error message that a Dialio file was missing. I didn't know at the time what Dialio was. Presumably Windows 7 removed Viasta and replaced it with Windows 7. I'm presuming that somehow Dialio recognized the change and took some countermeasure. This uninvited guest seemed to be opposed to be asked to leave.

As I said above Reg Cure was recommended and it became a very undesirable installation as it recommended a long series of other downloads from others, some free and some for pay. Reg Cure offered a free down load and scan but then wanted to "continue" and register. The gimmick was a free download and scan but no removal. To remove or fix the problem the software had to be purchased. It actually did seem to cure the Dialio problem superficially. But when Microsoft sent an automatic update, on the next boot up the computer stalled and would not boot up. Possibly Windows 7 and Dialio got into some sort of conflict and my " boot configure got corrupted ".

If the recovery disks I ordered from HP get me back up and on line I will delete the Dialio tool bar and all else first. Here is information from their website:
