Windows 7 x64 vs Windows 7 x86 (Fight)

Can't beat that as argument :D

Better is relative term, not a definitive. Better how?
In energy consumption: no
In efficient memory addressing: no

I cant't bring up the energy :hot:to put a list of all pro's and con's but in the end it's good for what you want it to do.

I guess i'd be hesitant as a manufacturer to put a quadcore x64 in a microwave, just as much as i'd be hesitant to put an 8086 in a CAD machine.
Relativity still applies to energy consumption and memory addressing efficiency. There's far less power consumption from one current quad-core than the required Pentium I's required to equal the HP, if that's the level of HP required for the job. Same for memory efficiency.

The right tool for the right job, and don't forget the insurance, just in case ...

Edit: I should've added an x64 vs. x86 example: for 32-bit apps, then x64 has more power consumption. But compile it / tweak it for x64, then the x64 execution could be more efficient. It will be example specific.

that was my point.

But added to that, it's simple reason which tells you the greater the level of indirection the more cycles are eaten.

On an 8086 you just have 1 register to fill, 80286 2 registers.
on x64 you need to fill registers to point to a memory pool, which in turn points to the physical address.
No way that's efficient.

Yes but remember you only have to set up your base address once. Many functions involve processing blocks of addresses off a base address. Once set, then very often you're procesing those blocks 64+ bits per cycle, rather than 32.

There's no easy answer :D.

And their like "It's better than yours"
Damn right, It's better than yours,
