[Solved] Windows Explorer continually crashing and restarting

SOLVED
by deleting the file before windows explorer recognised the file. i believe it is because of the thumbnail it produced

Hi everyone,

My issue is that Windows Explorer continually crashes and restarts when I log in to my profile. It will load most icons up but then windows explorer will start crashing and restarting. I was joining files together using File Splitter and Joiner and after it joined them together, it began to crash/restart. The file that I joined (mkv file) works and plays fine but when I try to delete it, it will just prepare for ages. It just displays calculating for time/items remaining and speed (i guess I have two problems which i think are interrelated). One is I can't deleted the joined file and perhaps windows explorer does not like this joined file hence crashing. (i have previously joined files and this error never occured)

Things I've tried
- starting in safe mode (windows explorer does not crash)
- tried deleting in safe mode (calculating forever)
- have tried sfc /scannow in safe mode (no error messages)
- scanned with avg command line scanner in safe mode (i dont think there were any problems, i fell asleep before the scan finished)
- attempted to play around with msconfig, I disabled all non microsoft services, still crashed
- tried deleting a registry key related to .mkv files
- unable to move/rename the file or access its properties

Windows 7 is
- x86 (32bit)
- the original installed OS on the system
- an OEM
- 1 year old (give take a month)
- have not reinstalled (so age is same as above)

If anyone can help me fix this issue it will be greatly appreciated!
p.s. I could not include the performance monitor report because it came up as an error.
The windows nt6 bsod report is when i was in safe mode

I´m having the same problem here, really annoying and I don´t believe it´s because some file type. I started to happen suddenly but without any changes on file associations.
What could it be?
It happens at least seven times a day!

neb1 - many, many networking errors in your Windows System logs. Many, many errors and crashes in your Windows Application logsI would try this free program to disable all non-Microsoft Shell Extensions: ShellExView - Shell Extension Manager For Windows
If that doesn't fix it, I'd suggest a repair install of Windows: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html

After that, if you still have problems, I'd have to suggest wiping your hard drive with DBAN or KillDisk (both are free with a Google search) and reinstalling Windows.

too - I'd suggest starting your own topic as each problem is different. Also, this will let your problem receive the individual attention that it deserves

Understood!
I´ve installed IE9, it should or should not do any good, I don´t actually know but it did apparently, no crashes so far.
I didn´t know about the repair way for the 7, it´s great to know, i´ve reinstalled it five times already, and reinstall everything really is hurtful.
Thank you for the help, and next time I´ll sure create my own topic!
