Windows Live Messenger Will Not Open

I seem to have mine working, as well. I created a new user account and installed WLM from there. Deleted the user account I installed it from and it's still working fine. This time I also installed all components of Live Essentials, except for the toolbar.

Got same Problem

Hi all, I got same problem on my lenovo win7 32bits, installing 'actual' windows live version, after same time, windows messenger refuse to open its window, in windows app log staying:
Faulting application name: msnmsgr.exe, version: 14.0.8117.416, time stamp: 0x4bc935af
Faulting module name: WLDCore.dll, version: 14.0.8117.416, time stamp: 0x4bc93503
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x00002ee5
Faulting process id: 0x820
Faulting application start time: 0x01cb30daf08f92c0
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger\msnmsgr.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger\WLDCore.dll
Report Id: 2eb583ce-9cce-11df-be57-705ab6671cc8
It was reall funny , I had many Users and for one msnmsgr.exe was working while for all the others no... It seems the crash with wldcore message occurred as soon as Web Messenger(link got logging to hotmail) was also used (maybe also in connection with computer restart?!) by the user.
Even new users after some time wer going in that problem.

Many Thanks to Maben00 and Capt.Jack Sparrow their both solutions were working for me:
1. (Maben00)as soon as one delete hotmail sing in info, Messenger will open its window, the pay is that one cannot save sign in info in Mess...
2. (Capt.Jack) installing Windows Live Beta seems ok, with the pay that it's beta version and no fit betweeen Mess and Hotmail checkboxes (in Msg one can save only User+Password, in Hotmail one could save only UserName...)

I have the same problem, and have tried all possible solutions I have read with the exception of deleting all registry entries as it was suggested in another forum. I have W7 64 bit and noticed the problem the last 3-4 days. I thought restoring the system to a previous date will solve it and it did, but only for a few hours, after that it shows the message that WLM encountered a problem and needs to be closed and Windows will look for a solution. The other option I cannot used at all is Repair/Uninstall from Control Panel and neither from the installer in the Messenger folder. Those 2 don't work at all, only show the timer circle for a second and nothing happens, so I have had to tried ZapMessenger and Windows Uninstall or Repair Tool to get rid of WLM and reinstall later.

I think it is related to some Windows update, but when restoring the system up to 3 weeks ago, the problem comes back. There is only one update that cannot be undone and it is the Malicious Tool Removal and maybe that could be - in my opinion - the cause of the problems as it shows it was installed around the same date the problem started.
I hope more people with experience come and give us or find a final solution to this. In my case I have been going nuts, still hesitating whether to delete all registry entries related to WLM.

If it were me and WLM gave me that much trouble I would find alternative program to use. IMO
I will look elsewhere to see if there is another solution but you need to think of finding another program in the meantime. 3 weeks is a lot of time wasted when there are more important issues for you ahead.
If I find anything I will pm you.

I second that ! If your worried about the WLM contacts then use Digsy
It will pull the Contact list from Windows Live server. Or you said the beta was working you could stick with that one.

Not sure if you guys are replying to me or to the other people with similar problem and posts. I appreciate it though; but my problem started 3 days ago, just about the same time as most people noticing the same. Just thought it could be related to one of the latest Windows updates and wanted to know if there is any other solution or idea to fix it. Apparently on the official Microsoft support site the "experts" there don't seem to be that interested and give vague ideas to fix it.
I would like to know if installing the beta version would at least allow me to have a stable messenger...

Sorry Mate ! Too may request and issues on one thread is really confusing. You could try the method i posted earlier regarding the manual removal from Registry etc. and see if that fixes it. If not the try the Beta version it seems more stable so far i used.

Hope this helps,
Captain

Worked for me

I found this on a competing forum, it solved the issue on two Vista Business stations in our office......

"The problem comes from the latest updates of MSN which create some conflicts of registry. I have resolved my problem by doing following:
1- click RUN from START menu and type REGEDIT:
2- follow path: HKEY_CURRENT_USER/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/MSNMessenger/PerPassportSettings.
3- under PerPassportSettings, you should find 2 folders named with a series of numbers. Delete both folders including their sub-files... and restart MSN."

As with the user who suggested this fix I found one machine with several folders and I deleted all with the exception of the folder named "0". Good luck.

This was recommended by another forum.
It looks like a registry cleaner!
"BE CAREFUL IF YOU DOWNLOAD IT!" Not for the novice users!!!

Download & run the Windows Installer CleanUp utility and remove any & all traces of WLM.

Other than the above, the only other suspect I have would be Malware.

This registry key is basically related to Avatar not sure whether it's applicable here
