Hi.

I got an OEM version of Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit with my PC, which is capable of 64-bit.

I've read that the serial key is legal for either version, 32-bit or 64-bit, but the DVD I got only has 32-bit version.

How can I get a new DVD with the 64-bit version, as I got 8 gigs of ram and I can't use them.

I bought and built the computer myself and made a mistake when I ordered Windows, and asked for 32-bit because I was scared of compatibility, and I opened and installed it already, so I can't take it back.

You can try contacting whoever supplied you with the 32bit disc and explain your mistake... they may send you a new 64bit one... You may just have to bite the bullet and purchase the 64bit version...

So you bought a 32Bit w7 machine, thinking you could install 64Bit on it using the DVD? Did you not ask the vendor if this was possible? The key that you got with that DVD is a 32Bit key and even if you got a 64bit DVD you will not be able to install 64Bit. Like Tews said you best bet is to go back to the store, explain that you wanted 64Bit not 32Bit, and you didn't know you couldn't install the OS using the supplied DVD and choose 64Bit.

Hopefully they will supply you with the 64Bit key (and 64Bit DVD) as a gesture of good will. If not you might be charged with one.

I'm not pro but I do not think the keycode is tied to the particular DVD. When I got my Windows7 it came with two DVDs and one keycode. I have two Microsoft Office CDs, one for my desktop and one for my laptop. I inadvertently installed Office on the laptop using the desktop CD, put in the laptop's keycode, and it works fine.

I have a 64 bit W7 Home Premium upgrade provided by DELL which I won't be using because I'll be going to W7 64 Ultimate I'd swap it for your W7 Home 32 and use it on my other laptop.
