Dual booting Windows and Linux can cause issues, seriously. Specially the dual boot is configured using GRUB. It is said very often that GRUB can damage windows beyond repair.I had a dual boot Linux RHEL and Server 2008 R2.
............
............
I have changed the boot sequence of my hard disks and moved windows HDD to higher priority in BIOS.
Then removed the RHEL HDD and boot in the windows.
Out of 100, 99.9% users have the 100 MB System Reserved partition. Some exceptional geeks like you can avoid it during installation, and sometimes some noobs somehow manage to do it, where even they are not sure how they achieved it. And that is why such an exceptional situation cannot be a general instruction.I don't know how RHEL Distros set up dual boot.
I've never had an issue dual booting W7 and Linux Mint.
I used to have a triple boot setup (XP, W7 and LM) and that worked without issues, until I installed a 3TB HDD.
I always install Linux after Windows and use GRUB.
I don't have the 100MB System Reserved partition though.
That said, I have seen threads where people reported issues and (IIRC) they all had the 100MB System Reserved partition on their PCs.
Try re-installing Linux (You will lose your data though) all in logical partitions. W7 Primary Partition 1, Windows 10 Primary Partition 2 , Linux Mint Logical, Linux swap partition also logical. For anyone else reading this is not the complete details on how to do this and it may not work for your system.I used to have a triple boot setup (XP, W7 and LM) and that worked without issues, until I installed a 3TB HDD.
It seems to be related to having an Active partition, before installing W7 (not sure if it still works with W8 & W10)Out of 100, 99.9% users have the 100 MB System Reserved partition. GRUB only calls the Windows boot loader (at least that's how it's worked for me since 2009).Dont let GRUB have the control over windows installation. When you have both the OSs installed in two different HDDs, you never need a dual boot for anything.
The issues were:lehnerus2000
