Dear Experts
Hi

I have a windows server 2008 r2 in my workplace. The problem is the OS can't install in the new updates.
So I do a sfc scan. here is the results.
It is noteworthy that the sfc did not finished as you can see the cmd.txt.

Here's the detailed error message...

From what little I know of 0xd0000034 errors, they tend to be mostly caused by disk corruption.

Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.
At the Command prompt, type
CHKDSK C: /R
and hit the Enter key.
You will be told that the drive is locked, and the CHKDSK will run at the next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.
The CHKDSK will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!
After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) - then run the SFC.

SFC -System File Checker - Instructions
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.
At the Command prompt, type
SFC /SCANNOW
and hit the Enter key
Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.

Upload the CBS.log file (compressed, please!) to your reply

Hi noel
I have checked the disks.
There were no problems.
funny the cbs log gets to 120MB after system restart. I thinks that is due to the computer will to install the windows updates. (as it seems from the cbs.log)
I can't attach the file here.

Dear Noel

I have both good news and bad news.
The good news is I have downloaded the windows server 2008 R2 CheckSUR (Windows6.1-KB947821-v34-x64) and installed it.
the installation results with the following CheckSUR.log which helped to complete the sfc /scannow command with the attached log.

C:\Users\Administrator.IUT-HPCC>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

It also helped me to install some of the updates that has the problems before.

The bad news is I still have errors on the CBS.log and I cannot install the update KB3033929 on my machine.

Thanks a lot for your time.
Regards

I've uploaded a file - nmnaa.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
Please download and save it.

Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract
Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print these instructions!)

Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which should be the option 'Repair my Computer'
Pick that
You'll have to log in with your username and password.

Pick the option to use a Command Prompt
At the prompt type
DIR C:\nmnaa
hit the enter key - if you get a 'Not Found' error try
DIR D:\nmnaa
or
DIR E:\nmnaa

The drive letter in use when you find the folder will need to be substituted (for<drive>) into the following command...

XCOPY <drive>:\nmnaa <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

(e.g. XCOPY P:\wfire P:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h )

run the command (it should take almost no time) and when the prompt returns, type
EXIT
and hit the Enter key to exit Command Prompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.

Now run SFC /SCANNOW in an Elevated Command Prompt
then reboot and upload the new CBS.log file to your reply

Dear Noel
Hi and hope you are doing ok

Sorry for the late response again.
I have done as you said. but after restart the problem persists.
I had a dual boot Linux RHEL and Server 2008 R2.
So I have googled a bit more and came out with a new post which was exactly like my situation.
So I tried it and it worked.
I have changed the boot sequence of my hard disks and moved windows HDD to higher priority in BIOS.
Then removed the RHEL HDD and boot in the windows. Tried to install the updates again and this time the updates installed correctly. then connected the RHEL HDD and reverted the boot sequence change of the HDDs in BIOS.

I cant do anything from this distance but to thank you a million times
Regards

Ah - dual boot with Linux can cause problems.
I'll see if I can find someone who knows more about Linux than me (not difficult!) to advise on the best way to set things up - or you may have continuing problems.

Dual booting Windows and Linux can cause issues, seriously. Specially the dual boot is configured using GRUB. It is said very often that GRUB can damage windows beyond repair.

It seems from your post that Windows and Linux are set up in different HDDs. Very nice. In that case you dont need a dual boot. Break the dual booting system: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/210983-dual-boot-delete-os.html
Use the Boot Menu key to select the drive to boot from.

I don't know how RHEL Distros set up dual boot.

I've never had an issue dual booting W7 and Linux Mint.
I used to have a triple boot setup (XP, W7 and LM) and that worked without issues, until I installed a 3TB HDD.

I always install Linux after Windows and use GRUB.
I don't have the 100MB System Reserved partition though.

That said, I have seen threads where people reported issues and (IIRC) they all had the 100MB System Reserved partition on their PCs.

Out of 100, 99.9% users have the 100 MB System Reserved partition. Some exceptional geeks like you can avoid it during installation, and sometimes some noobs somehow manage to do it, where even they are not sure how they achieved it. And that is why such an exceptional situation cannot be a general instruction.

Dont let GRUB have the control over windows installation. When you have both the OSs installed in two different HDDs, you never need a dual boot for anything.

There is a way to dual boot both. The System Reserve could be the issue. It may be seeing to many partitions. My setup is a little different, I don't how similar windows 7 is to a windows server.

I was able install windows 7 without the system reserve partition. Grub2 shouldn't cause problems with windows update. The only time Grub2 caused me a problem, was when windows 10 was updating to the next build, for some reason windows can't not write an updated MBR and track 0 partition so the install fails and reverts back. Since, I have some know how, I was able to workaround that issue. I also had a triple boot system Windows 7, 10 and Lubuntu

nimanouri

How technically are you? There might be a way. This will require you to delete the Redhat partitions and reinstalling them you will lose anything on that disk. It will take me sometime to post how I did my windows 7 & xubuntu partitions. I only have one disk.

Try re-installing Linux (You will lose your data though) all in logical partitions. W7 Primary Partition 1, Windows 10 Primary Partition 2 , Linux Mint Logical, Linux swap partition also logical. For anyone else reading this is not the complete details on how to do this and it may not work for your system.

I have done a clean install of Windows 7 using Dell re-installation disk (Dell sent me one). I also use Free Macrium reflect backup and restore.

It seems to be related to having an Active partition, before installing W7 (not sure if it still works with W8 & W10)
It's actually easier to do with a triple boot setup (XP, W7 & Linux) than by tinkering.
Installing XP, then W7 and then Linux does it automatically.

That said, I'm not sure how W2K8 would respond.

Dont let GRUB have the control over windows installation. When you have both the OSs installed in two different HDDs, you never need a dual boot for anything.
GRUB only calls the Windows boot loader (at least that's how it's worked for me since 2009).

The issues were:

  • I only had XP 32 bit (it couldn't cope with >2 TB)
  • My motherboard SATA driver (for Windows) couldn't cope either (the default W7 driver works OK though).
Linux Mint had no issues with the 3TB HDD. :)
