I just recently did a restoration process on my computer and it is all working fine i am now trying to install updates, there are 144 of them and when i clicked install updates, it said downloading updates and it has been stuck at 0% for over 20 minutes, how long does it actually take to download them or get off the 0% mark

Restart them and see if that helps, if it doesn't, restart your router.

OK good. Was that the first time you ever installed updates on that computer? The first time is ALWAYS a struggle.

I had to do a whole recovery process on it because I was having problems with the user accounts and I had my disks that cost me $59, so yes on this installation of Windows and after when I thought I was almost done some of my updates were failing with Error Code 800B0100 and I ran the Windows Update Troubleshooter from the official Windows website and then after that error was fixed, I was getting another error code I don't remember which one, but that seemed to fix itself and now Windows is finally up to date

I also had the problem of a hanging "checking for Updates" that went on for 1 hour before I gave up.
What I did was to read the posts about it then downloaded the tool, ran it and it searched for updates on my computer. It offered to install a Hot Fix update which I ran. Then I opened in Safe Mode. It luckily prompted me to install updates which I did and now seems to run properly.
Thanks to everyone who persisted and found solutions to this problem.
