Windows Teredo

Hiya,

when I go into the devices and printers on my Windows, I see my computer and next to is a small triangle notifying me there is an error somewhere but everytime I try to fix it first says it has found the correct driver from Windows Update but then a few seconds pass and a red X appears saying that it cannot download and then that there is a problem with the Windows Teredo-tunneling driver.

Is this something that is worth worrying about or can I just leave it be?

Of course I know that everytime I see it my geeky "I wanna fix it" part of me gets turned on...

Teredo tunneling is a transition technology that gives full IPv6 connectivity for IPv6-capable hosts which are on the IPv4 Internet but which have no direct native connection to an IPv6 network. At the moment most home systems connected to the internet do not have native IPv6 connectivity and as more websites move to the new system teredo tunneling needs to be used so our IPv4 sytsems can have access and process IPv6 address data.
The limitations of IPv4 mean that over the next few years the world would run out of new internet addresses so hence the move to IPv6. Teredo tunneling is intended to be only a temporary measure: in the long term, all IPv6 hosts should use native IPv6 connectivity. ISP's have a lot of work to do still before this becomes reality though.
The reality is that at the moment you can get away without it. I have IPv6 disabled on my network to avoid confusion with legacy machine equipment, I've never missed it in the slightest... Not saying this won't change in the future though.

Windows updates has never given me an issues so I haven't a clue.

However Teredo Tunneling adapter ipv6 drove me crazy.

I spent days trying to fix an error in Teredo Tunneling adapter. Basically it wasn't there because I followed a "Fix" I found on the internet and the first step was to remove it so windows could reinstall it.. Bad move. Windows refused to reinstall it and kept asking me for a disk to install it from

I eventually found instructions on how to get it installed on this site: Step By Step Guide To Install Microsoft Teredo Tunnel Adapter

This left me with ipv6 installed but not starting with Error Code 10. After three more days of searching and trying different posted solutions followed by failure I found {FIX} Teredo Tunneling device cannot start – Code 10

The first 8 steps took me about 10 minutes and it was up and running. The site goes on to even more steps if the first 8 fail to cure the problem.

I'm not sure if you have the same problems but I found the above to be the answer to my issues and I pass it on for what it's worth.
