Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.320 Destroys Windows Update

Hi, i recently built a new machine and having installed win7 successfully and then updated to SP1 without issues, but the next download was the above WUA , and that has nuked win updates, all it does is pretend to be searching for updates and stays /hangs like that until i stop the service manually or restart, I have spend hrs searching for a solution that works , No doubt this is a deliberate ploy by Microcrap to push everyone on to their data mining win 10 ,and i will not install that untill this changes and as well as them cutting out the bloat

Reboot the PC, then try installing the latest update client and see if it speeds up the scans:

Do another reboot after you've installed the update.

As it's the first check for updates be prepared to wait for at least 30 minutes though. It can take a while the first time around.
Windows update has been working slowly for a lot of people since 10 was released. Sometimes it can take 8+ hours without the latest update client installed.

The list of updates would have come in. You just have to let it search for one or two days... Or, you can skip installing Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.320 and install the latest Windows Update Client KB3135445 and the list of updates should appear within an hour. [Windows Update Agent was renamed Windows Update Client somewhere along the way.
There are lots of threads about this. You did not see one before posting?

I found a thread on another site, but the search that did here ,didn't throw up anything really, maybe human error on my part A bit devious or very stupid of MS to do that and not ensure that those who have recently installed win 7 where offered for download the up to date version

I find it odd that after installing SP1 (or after installing W7 using media that already has SP1 integrated) the Windows Update process prompts the user to install Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.320 --- which is software issued before service pack 1.

That old Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.320 used to work just fine - until early 2015. When people doing fresh installs started seeing really long search times. My guess is: stuff changed for the W10 deployment via Windows Update.

Downloaded the latest windows update sandalone installer from the link your provided, put it on my win7 desktop and double clicked on it, it doesn't do any installing it just opens and hangs at searching for updates crap , my AV firewall is not showing any network activity from windows service hosts ect, how can it be searching if it isnt even connecting ??? dumb microcrap

Other than formatting my SSD again is there any way to delete the offending wua that is installed ?? Or that it windows 7 has been nuked by the greedy corporation Microsoft ,I would sooner sell my new build than run there designed for a tablet o/s win10 or 8.1 that have built in data mining and spy ware

I cannot test right now, but the first part of the searching could be a local search of the DataStore.edb database. That file is about 1GB on a few computers that I checked. That search could take a while. Just let it do its thing for as long as it needs.

Ok it is now installed, and rebooted the machine and run wus, and got an error, code 80244019, ok after powering off the box and trying again it worked downloading 200+ updates

Just reboot again and try checking again. Not sure why you're having problems with that update.

Well touch something wooden, it's sorted for now at least, (until the next time ms bork things) doesnt half use your ram whilst dl and installing updates though peaked at 11.5gb

I have found that the newer KB3135445 after a new install of 7 will run for roughly 2 hours and then ask if you want to install. I then install it, takes a couple of minutes, go to Windows update and BAMM!!!, I now have 200+ updates to install. I then install all at once and all's well in the land of Oz. I used to get frustrated because it took so long and thought it was not working and found myself chasing a problem that does not exist. I finally let the new update client take its course and have not had any more update issues. I owe all the credit to UsernameIssues for he put me on the road to resolving update issues I had in the past.

Even if a process uses 11.5GB of RAM, the important question is:
Is the process locking that RAM so that no other app can have that RAM if it is requested?

The database file ..\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore\DataStore.edb usually grows to about a 1GB. Earlier versions of the Windows Update Client did not handle that file well. They were not releasing the RAM that they used to read thru that 1GB file. This can be seen by using a tool like RAMMap.

Well WUS is working as intended for now,Had to remove those win 10 spy-ware updated and delete the nag ware folder it creates, So apart from it hanging at shut-down sometimes requiring a reset or power off by switches, I think it could be related to some of the Asus utility s/w i have installed , just finding out which driver ect,

I have done a few tests/benchmarks, to test the GPU and oc'ed the CPU and Ram for a brief period there's more options to tweak stuff than most would know what to do with, or probably ever use, i was going to update the bios, but everything so far appears to work ok, ,well apart from the usb ports failing to do anything following a restart that was initiated by software or windows

Yes i was aware of the no usb 3 support, though the actual win 7 installation wasn't too bad, had working usb for both kb and mouse though install , all usb3 and 3.1 drivers are installed , unless there's a setting in the bios that needs to be set back to the default value ?? as you have to make some changes to the bios settings to be able to install win7 from dvd and for it to boot iirc
