Since my son no longer uses his Asus PEM 1015 I was going to start using it myself. This laptop has always been kept up to date with MS updates, the Browser, AV & Flash. About a week ago I noticed Windows Updates would no longer work. It just keeps checking for updates for hours with no results & no error codes. I tried fixing it using suggestions I've read on line & using tools from MS. However the problem was never resolved.

About 3 days ago I decided to start fresh since my son was not going to use this laptop again & I did a System Recovery to bring back the laptop to it's original start day. When I do a System Recovery everything works well again until MS Updates updates my Windows Agent automatically to Windows Agent to 7.6.7600.320. At this point everything breaks down & Windows Updates runs constantly without ever finding any results or giving me any error codes. I've also tried suggestions online at this point & have used MS tools & the only thing that works temporarily is doing another System Recovery. This works temporarily until MS Updates updates my WU Agent again automatically to 7.6.7600.320 & the issue starts again. I've already done a System Recovery 4x already & everything works well again until MS updates automatically the Windows Agent to 7.6.7600.320.

Can anyone here please help me.
Thanks,
Bill

I had this problem as well as tried numerous fixes. What fixed it was upgrading the MS Windows Update Agento to the June2015 version. Go to https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3050265 and down to Method 2 and download the appropriate file for the version of Windows you have. Reboot your computer then install the update. Then reboot one more time. You should see the bunch of updates right away as soon as you check for updates.

Thanks I'll give that a try. Although I tried to installed the latest agent from another MS link & it just reinstalled the current one I have. Hopefully it will work.

I was able to install that update KB3050265 but it didn't fix the issue.
I ran the Windows Update diagnostic tool & give me 1 error. Before running this update I was getting 2 error messages.

Windows Update error 0x80070057 which it can't fix.
Service registration is missing or corrupt, this error has been fixed.

This is really frustrating.

Alas my joy of fixing the issue was short lived. Figured I would install office and then get all of the updates in one fell swoop. Well the 138 updates that showed up when I installed the new Windows Update Agent no longer show up at all.

Since this is not one of my main PC's I'm doing another system recovery as I type. When I start doing my MS updates I will not install any .Net frameworks & if I can install SP1 without any .Net programs I will try to install KB3050265 again.

What worries me is the fact this can happen to my main PC's.

I just finished installing SP1. As soon as WU Updates stop working again which start happening after installing SP1 & automatically updating the agent tool I'll give the DNS change a try.

It's funny because every time I install SP1 I check the update history & the WU agent has not updated yet to 7.6.7600.320. Next time I check for update it installs automatically updates the WU agent to 7.6.7600.320. And if do a System Restore to a point without 7.6.7600.320, System Restore ignore the previous WU Agent & leave me with 7.6.7600.320 even though it was not there when that restore point was set.

I just installed that hotfix posted by Snowbound with no issues. Right afterwards I had the laptop check for updates manually & looks like the fun/nightmare will continue. I will try the DNS change & will continue the fight. Thanks god this is not my main Laptop.

Update:

Just started PC to stop WU loop from constantly searching & received a message during startup in reference to the registry with code 107 for system cure. I've seen this message before.

You might as well use the one that came out today :-)

In my case applying this update did NOT fix the problem as I indicated earlier. The download links on the linked page do not currently work.

Hmmm, the download links do not work for me either :-(

I was able to apply that update via Windows Update (WU) on two computers today.

There have been several threads about WU constantly looking for updates. Sometimes, setting the computer not to sleep and leaving WU running/searching overnight gets a list. If that does not fix things, then follow these posting instructions:

http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-...4840-windows-update-posting-instructions.html

It is best for each member with a problem to have their own thread.

I'll give it it a try since I've got nothing to loose. However while the link above works to get me to the page the download links for the manual installer do not work. I need the x86 installer for this laptop. The MS Gods are against me.

Yes - the links are broken :-(

Do another "System Recovery to bring back the laptop to it's original start day."
Install SP1.
Check for updates.
Let that first check install Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.320.
It should automatically start searching for more updates.
Set the laptop not to sleep and leave it alone overnight*.
At least 10 to 12 hours - the update servers are busy.

If that still fails, please provide the info requested in post #14.

I can give that a try but I'm pretty sure I have tried to install SP1 right after a system recovery a couple of times already & it would not install it till I installed a bunch of other updates first including a bunch of .Net frameworks. In fact I just experience this recently on my last system recovery.

Also I understand your point about the servers being busy. But I have 4 other PC's that I can set to scan for updates at the same time as my trouble laptop & they all complete their checks for updates in a timely manner while this laptop just runs constantly without ever stopping to give me any results or errors.

Also why can't I follow the instructions on the other link now without having to do another system recovery?
I looked at the link & I have run some of those tools already but I have not followed all those steps. Can I bypass another system recovery & start following the instructions on that link now?

I have seen the same thing re: some computers fast, some take hours. I've just seen the overnight thing work.

You can skip doing another system recovery and just post the files requested - but there is only one member in this forum that works with these files. It might take a while for him to get to you.

No problem since this is not my main Desktop or Laptop. I'll do a restart right now to stop the checking for updates & will get to work.

Thanks.

OK here you go. I had to do a system restore to the point right after I installed SP1 to get the system update readiness tool to work. Before I did this it just sat there for about an hour. Hope I didn't ruin the results.

Also I performed sfc /scannow on an elevated prompt before & after the system restore & neither one found anything. I'm attaching the zip file.
