Solved Windows Update Error Code 800700C1, Hasn't Updated Since 6-17-15

There are no significant errors in the uploaded file, and SFC is clear.

Noel, not long after I applied the fix, it started detecting updates and asked for me to start downloading them but I wanted to wait to hear back from you before I let it continue. Is it possible one of the previous updates that was installed could have caused this? I had heard there were a few updates that came out several months ago that were wreaking havoc on alot of user's systems and the only fix was to uninstall the offending updates. I don't want to have to go through all of this again if that were the case, but I'm sure that Microsoft has issued a fix for this since it's been several months now. I also suspect that it might be possible that the 17-year-old gamer on this laptop was making changes that he probably shouldn't have been, and that might have caused it also. According to what was corrupt in this system, what would be your opinion?

There's no problems with any of the current updates that I'm aware of - any offending ones were soon withdrawn and updated before re-release.
That's one reason why I always suggest doing a Check for Updates before proceeding with any installs.

Do the Check, then attempt to install ONLY the oldest found update
If in goes in OK, try the rest.

If it fails, post the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file.

The earliest update that was presented to me was KB3023215 dated 05/12/15. This is the only one I am going to install at this time. I'll let you know how it goes in a little while.

It ran for about 35 minutes without downloading the update. It seemed to just hang, so after a cancel and retry, and another 20 minutes, it started to download and install. After it was successfully installed and complete, I closed the Windows Update program, then started it again as no system reboot was required for this update and checked for updates again. There were 32 important updates available to be installed and as of the time I left my house to go to work, it was still busy installing. I'll have more information later. So far so good.

Noel, all of the updates that I allowed to install, did so with no problems. Windows Update continues to work as it just ran this morning. The laptop in question has not been used for anything else since this time so I'm not able to determine if any resulting problems exist, but I am satisfied that my original issue has been solved. I thank you all very much and will seek advice in the future if needed.
