That's the longest log I've ever seen.

It looks like all the updates were installed. Is that the case?

Also, are you using Avast?

When I ran the SURT, all the updates seemed to be installed. Then I ran windows update again and the Netframework update was still listed. It failed with the error code listed above.

Yes I use Avast on that PC. Do you think that might be causing an issue?

Yes, I thought Avast might be the issue.

However, would you go to Control Panel, Windows Update and find the last installation of the .netframework installation in the update history and uninstall it. Then, try installing the latest version. It might ask you to reboot before the new installation. If it does, do so.

Hi Alicia J,

I uninstalled the latest Netframework update, rebooted and ran windows update. I'm still getting the same error trying to install the latest Netframework update thru the Windows Update.

Let's assume that you want to install .NET Framework 4.7.2.

What you could do is to download the .msu [offline installer] from here [to the desktop for example] => Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.2 for Windows 7 (KB4054530). Then just double-click the file to run and install it.

I hope this helps!

I'm trying to install KB4459922 but when i go to the catalogue it gives a list of exe files. I don't see a .msu file. How do I install it from the list of exe files?

Avast isn't/wasn't causing the Win Update issue. I run Avast Free!
Control Panel > uninstall a program > Click on Avast Free > click Uninstall > click Repair
Most of the Avast errors should be corrected.

FYI: Avast/AVG has been notified on at least one occasion regarding the errors.

You will need to reboot.
Run SURT again and post logs.
WindowsUpdate.log too please location C:\Windows

Don't believe that is going to install!

I ran SURT again after an Avast repair and reboot. The logs are attached as requested.

I am unclear what "KB4459922 Microsoft Update Catalog

Thank you for the logs, I'll peruse them.

There are 2 .exe, followed by 2 .msu, followed by 1 .exe" means in terms of how to install.

The .msu file name extension is a Microsoft executable file, & associated with the Windows Update Standalone Installer.
.EXE is a file extension for an executable file format. An executable is a file that contains a program - that is, a particular kind of file that is capable of being executed or run as a program in the computer. An executable file can be run by a program in Microsoft DOS or Windows through a command or a double click.

Thanks for looking at the log files, and the explanation. I didn't realize that there wasn't just one single exe file to install the updates.

I'll do the next step thanks.

Hi Alicia J,

Did you do what Snick asked you to do, and if so, did it work?
You still need to run SURT again and post the CheckSUR.log only.

I hope this helps!

All those avast errors are what led me to believer that Avast could potentially be the problem. However, I'll leave it to Snick to help you with it since he's much more knowledgeable than I am.

Is your problem resolved? The log doesn't show that Avast is fixed.

I don't know if my problem is solved. I installed the Netframework manually. Some exe files ran and some didn't. I uninstalled Avast, ran ccleaner, and installed it again.

I really don't know what to do next.
