Windows Update error code 80200024 How do I fix this?

Let's try this-

Go to Control Panel, Action Center.

At the Bottom of the page, click on Trouble Shooting.

Click on Fix problems with Windows Update under System and Security

Click on Advanced

If not checked, check the box to Fix problems automatically.

Click on Run as Administrator

Click on Next.

Let it run

If it finds and fixes any problems, click on View Details to see what the problem(s) is/are. It may just tell you to Open Windows Update. If it does, give one update a try.

I swear I checked on that and didn't see it. Need a new pair of glasses. :o

I was working on a different fix this morning but I wanted to try it to make sure I was giving you the correct way to go. Got interrupted by other work today. If I don't go to the golf course tomorrow, I'll get back to you on it then.

I swear I read through this thread and didn't see that. I have to be more careful.

Start your computer in Safe Mode with Networking.

Go to tweaking.com and download\install the Windows Repair Free tool. You can do this before going to Safe Mode, if you wish.

Start the Repair Tool.

Click on Jump to Repairs and, then, Open Repairs.

Make sure the box to Repair Windows Updates is checked. It should be by default.

Start Repairs. When it's done, follow whatever instructions it provides (I haven't run the repair option so I don't know what comes afterwards.) or restart and try try the Windows Updates.

If it doesn't help, reopen Windows Repair in Safe Mode. In Getting Started, run Steps 1 through 4.

What a mess. After running the tool I see that the security centre was not running and could not be turned on. (Error 1068). The Windows update attempt after running the repair tool gave me the same error as before. Then I tried to do a system restore and now that appears to be stuck. I’ll let it run overnight and hope it finishes successfully.

System restore finally finished running. The issue with the security centre not running is now resolved. Windows update still fails with the same error.

Did you run Steps 1 through 4, as I suggested above? Were any errors noted and fixed? When you got done, did you back up the registry and create a new system restore point before rebooting. Then, did it offer to select a Preset for repair?

I'm just asking to see what you actually did. If you didn't do the things I mentioned after step 4, just let me know.

I did run it in safe mode, but I honestly don't remember the sequence of steps after that.

This may be redundant but-

If you wish, set a new system restore point before booting into safe mode.

In Windows Repair, click on Step 4. In the next screen, click on the blue arrow pointing to the right at the bottom right of the screen. Click on it again. Click on Preset: Windows Update. Click on Start Repair.

When you get done, follow the instructions (I haven't run it past that point) and reboot.

Retry the updates, one at a time.

I got the same old error message. At least this time I didn’t end up with more issues. I
might have to use this Netbook as a paperweight. I don’t want to run it not updated, and I sure don’t want to spend all my time keeping it up to date manually.

As I understand it, you tried each of the failed updates and got the same message. Is that the case?

In the Windows Update history, are there any other failed updates?

Yes I got the same error message. The only update that I hadn't already installed manually, failed, and showed on the list as failed.

I don't understand your last sentence. Initially, there were 3 updates you couldn't install. Are you saying there's only one left that still won't install? If so, which one is it?

I accidently stumbled upon some information regarding the 4465129 update in another thread. If that's one you can't install, hold off until I get additional information.
