Windows Update - Hide or Restore Hidden Updates

I did both having seen the new reg key created as well as the upgrade policy disabled. The KB3035583 update is the one to hide for the Get 10 app once that shows up in the Optional updates on most systems. Right click on it to select hide and that won't reappear on you.

So far on the 7 installs on two machines none of the Get 10 stuff has returned while I never leave any Windows set for full automatic anyways. I don't being right in the middle of something and the system suddenly restarts on it's own!

Got the retail tags for both Home and Pro but will wait until next July to upgrade the free 10 installs presently seen. You buy through the MS online store no longer seeing retail cartons out on store shelves for the time being. Same price for usb flash drive per version as you would pay for the download. Home $119.99 Pro $199.99 This is only for anyone who is either presently trying 10 out or will be wanting to upgrade sometime.

Hmm Night Hawk that is how I set my updates and why I asked I am awaiting the next load of updates.

I was pretty remiss not going through my updates before I installed them and not deleting them once in there update list and am now stuck.

Seems like I might have to do a reinstall on my other two desktops and three laptops not a pleasant prospect but if need be I will if just to get rid of the GWX. Personally I think it is an invasion of my right to personal preferences that Microsoft can stop one from deleting that particular entry :sarc:

I've had a ton of the usual Important as well as several optional updates go on since I hid that one by itself and not one Get 10 anything has been seen since! The app is simply to get people to reserve their copy of 10 which when clicked on September 1st suddenly displayed 10 was ready to be downloaded when having reserved it back in either late June early July when the app first appeared.

A little too late since all flavors of 10 had already been downloaded and even running 10 on a VM was seen here.

I will say 10 runs a lot like 7 despite the new tiles in the returned Start menu. The Stardock $5 Start Menu 10 provides the 7, Modern, or 10 Style Start menu with the 3rd party app there. But those two guides as well as hiding the 10 app update will prevent any unintended upgrade to 10 from being seen on any 7, 8, o 8.1 install presently on.

In fact I have to run the latest manual check once again for updates on 7 since I have been going over things in 10 for quite a bit of time now getting a good lookover while still planning to keep 7 running. I was pricing the editions for multiple pcs since a few friends would only buy the full retail wanting their own media while things are going to be changing with 10! When 7 gets retired I will be right up there close to the mandatory retirement age so 7 still fits the bill here while I still wanted to look at what 10 was bringing in with it.(besides tablet and mobile that is!)

Me too I expect I will be past doing much anyway as the fire has turned into a pile of embers as far as I am concerned.

I just don't like those panels I mean how easy was it to find Control Panel and such?? I just reckon it is the best OS they have come up with including that XP which I think was ok but pretty geriatric. The 8 to me was a debacle ok for the touchy feely types but there again perhaps I ma too old fashioned even the phone gives me the trots.:shock:

10 has some rather interesting new features being an updated OS that are not something to scuff at by any means. I think the 8 debacle was mostly due to how MS was introducing dual platforms without first working out the details and simply going ahead and stripping the most commonly things out of the OS entirely leaving 8 to be nothing more then a bulletin board for MS apps!

10 sees improvements in the Virtualization area as well as for increased touchscreen support not just for tablet and mobile but improved overall for the desktop as well. The boot loader problem resulting in volumes of disk errors when trying the 8 CP out along side 7 hasn't been seen in any form with 10.

As for the Classic type of Control Panel you still see that for the time being but may not with what comes after 10! As one blogger puts it MS wants to do away with the old panels to suit the newer GUI designs. But this is also understandable while the transition shouldn't simply be a rush job like 8 was for tablet and mobile!

The only problem someone has asked about presently is not hiding updates but finding and installing them separately since not many are even out yet for 10. No slipstreaming them quite yet as you still see for 7. What the 10 installer does do however is find most of everything for you during the installation that previous versions always needed to wait for.

If you were preparing for a clean install you would first download and save all of the updates and driver sets for everything. With 10 you may have to look at what support options are available for some things due to 10 being the brand new just out OS there. People had to use Vista x64 driver sets while waiting for 7's to first appear being no biggie. But presently 7 has been time tested and still has the reigns for the time being at least!

Hide or updates ? Perhaps better leave it set there ?

I was offered this KB 3035583 again today, for I think the 7 Th time now.

Been hiding it for 6 times now. That does not seam to do the trick. Now I am just gonna leave it and see what happens text time.

Perhaps I will end up with a hole series of KB 3035583's waiting, sitting there doing nothing :sarc:

I simply right clicked on it once it showed up on the next check following seeing it uninstalled. So far no return listing for it while it remains in the hidden from view listing there. That's the separate area that has been another update hidden away now for quite some time I'd say close to 5yrs. now! So never say never!

Me thinkest me speakest toooooooo soonest ??? :eek:

Hello Thelma I got sent this and another tutorial by Brink Windows Update Automatic Updates - Enable or Disable in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums the other tutorial was almost the same and I applied the fixes to a reinstall I was doing and as yet nothing has come up and the one time that KB3035533 did I hid it and haven't seen it since - might be worth a try,

hiding updates

Hi John, yes I read through that tutorial of Brink ( that's how I ended up on this thread ) and I was thinking of doing the change in services, which is the easy one, but then ..............I like to see what they are doing.

So I have written down my hidden updates on a piece of paper and every time now when I am offered new updates I go to my hidden list and see if they are offering them again. This KB 3035583 is at the moment 3 x on my hidden list so some have disappeared, there should be 6.

Also now that I have written them down I can see if others are disappearing.

And of coarse I also have the now FAMOUS LIST of the NEVER TO INSTALL UPDATES IF YOU DON'T WANT ANYTHING TO DO WITH WINDOWS 10:shock:

I like to think that I am still in charge of it all

10 isn't a bad OS once you have spend some time with it in comparison to the 8 Flop! It actually does run quite a bit like 7 only seeing updated features and support for newer things. You have to remember that 10 is also three versions newer then 7 so you would obviously need to expect to see changes!

Now for yesterday's failed upgrade attempt I went in to check to see what was new if anything and guess what? The Notorious KB3035583 update was back! Somehow after so long it "unhides" itself somehow or is triggered to do that somehow once something goes on passed off as a security update? The list of 10 updates with one in particular is seen here.

10 isn't a bad OS once you have spend some time with it in comparison to the 8 Flop!

Well Night Hawk I did try it and have still got it on a SSD for my Sandy Bridge and while I agree that it is a whole lot better than the 8 debacle I am still concerned about some of the EULA that involves anyone accessing my machines for any reason whether they have reasons to do so or not in my mind.
Now I have nothing to hide but what does concern me is that I have banking and other personal data on my machines that I don't mind sharing with friends and even the authorities if they gave me reason to look into my data. But for a company like Microsoft to build in a feature that they can use I feel that is a violation of my civil rights. It is if one wants to look at it like a form of malware:sarc:

I do suspect there are more inclusions in their system that would also make me feel sullied as I have no come back when using Windows 10.

Don't get me wrong because I am no greenie or other undesirable - well I don't think I am but this is a gross misuse of their power, and what's more we end up paying for it!!

Hi John, I read through these last posts of you and Nighthawk.

If it is really true that there is an EULA like that in windows 10 ( being able to see all you're personal stuff like banking ) than that would be sure against national and international rules written down in laws and things.

Human Rights of Freedom and Protection and so on, so how can they get away with it.

Also I think that the gross lot of users is NOT AWARE OF THAT.

It was not till I had a major problem with my laptop and ended up here ( being helped great style

) that I started looking into updates and the rest. That was all on automatic :shock:

It is with everything in live, the more you know, the more you want to know, which I think is great !
But it always raises questions ......

Hi,
Most of the personal info gathering such as login and password relates to Edge browser where it has form fill and auto password remembering keeping you signed in....
Then you get in Onedrive if you use it to sync personal documents like bank statements.....
I personally wouldn't worry about it but the terms apply to the M$ services you use I would guess
Which the terms as far as I can tell are the same as each individual service before 10 was released they are just bundled into win-10 in a way they can be a bit misleading

But then again to find terms of use for non M$ account is like bigfoot

The only service that works that I've noticed without a M$ account is Edge browser and bing desktop search so those will send usage and there might be 1 or 2 apps that work like news.... I deleted most of them so I can't say :/

Hmm well I posted some time ago now some quotes from that EULA from Leo Notenbooms blog and what I saw put me right off 10in fact I thought it quite dishonest. Now I know we live in a world where ones private stuff is never safe because one only has to look at what that Anonymous group can do and I suppose it just goes to support it really doesn't matter what I do someone somewhere can access my data.
What I do object to is the people who sell us this software could even make use of said software to basically spy on us.

The urk about 10 isn't about stealing your personal data but how 10 is being jammed down everyone's throat so MS can make the 1 billion pc mark! When called out on how come the supposedly Optional update is automatically checked off MS replied with it simply being a mistake on their part and would be corrected? There are several reports on that one!

Here despite the new reg key and hiding the 10 app the second failed upgrade install wasn't from clicking on the 10 app as seen on Sept. 1st but while the machine was simply left running! The updates are set for the "Let me choose when.." where MS said otherwise at finding the second failure.

Glad I got those two new storage drives since that tosses a monkey wrench into the works positively to prevent any successful unattended upgrade! The next move here now since the "Let me choose.." became "Let MS choose" out of the blue is to simply set it to never check for updates. When running a check manually simply keep a look out for the KB3035583 being the Get 10 app that has now progressed further to Install 10 now.

Well I have searched through Leo Notenbooms newsletters and it seems that the quote form the EULA for 10 ins now been taken out by whom? who knows but this is just one quote of many.
It just doesn't sit well with me when something I pay for with my hard earned money can be dictated to be used by the manufacturer in deciding what I can and cannot do with it . I mean what would the citizens of the US say if suddenly all Ford card cars had to be driven on the other side of the road just so they knew which were Ford cars - a ridiculous example I know but no different to saying I have to download and install updates if I don't want to. As for the other features like that hell awful Bing and other "goodies" well I think that 7 does it all and with so much less fuss.

It appears that Microsoft insists that all of your data ( not just things like driver issues or bad updates) be available to them for whatever reason they state. They have also built in numerous exploits for Homeland Security to spy on users at will without warrants. I currently use Windows 7 Professional and have been able to install a highly configurable 3rd party firewall to block access from IP addresses at any level I set. I’m concerned that such firewalls won’t work anymore with Windows 10. “Windows firewall” is a joke if you’re serious about real security, it’s a “feel good” app for the uninitiated that is riddled with back doors with no real configuration possible. It also appears that good solid encryption programs will be made impossible to use in this distro. I don’t have anything to hide; criminal or otherwise. I just don’t trust Microsoft or the government with my personal data. We hear time and time again how disgruntled employees and rogue government snoops abuse the working stiff. Not many of the “progressives” or “conservatives” agree with my politics. I am very outspoken about human rights issues and corruption and the direction this country is headed. There are a number of people who would stoop to any level to shut me up. I don’t know why they can’t issue service packs instead of entirely new operating systems. I fully realize it’s all about the money. I’d be willing to bet that a good number of users would gladly pay for extended service packs. Windows 7 is the best yet. I’ve had the opportunity to do clean installs of Windows 8.1. I find it difficult to configure Windows 8.1 as a desktop OS for my customers. My customers all hate Windows 8.1. I’ve had several who requested an OEM copy of Windows 7 Professional and were willing to part with another $100.00 to make their new PC more user friendly. I have a couple of towers sitting around. I may give Windows 10 a try AFTER Service pack 1. It would be nice if Microsoft had the ability to release an OS that works right out-of-the-box; but they don’t and probably never will. These “pre-release candidates” are for suckers! I fell for it when Windows XP was in development. It’s ludicrous to work for Microsoft WITHOUT PAY to fix their blunders. they don’t even offer a discount to the testers. CORPORATE GREED is who they are!

The Windows firewall is a joke for the most part and one of the reasons I am glad the 3rd party av software here has not only the firewall but web filtering that blocks sites when anything suspect is detected. As far as Windows updates however you shouldn't have to worry about an OS change when going to check up on what's new or worry if left set to automatic.

As far as Homeland Security and other agencies they don't actually need MS to spy on people! Don't forget they can track your every move by way of ISP as well as other means. All they need is to get a keylogger to gain access to things or come in and take your machine away for examination if they have a warrant or reasonable cause for suspicion. Plus you shop online and put your personal data out there! They'll get it if they want to!

And I did finally get around to setting things to never check here since I hate the need to restart the system every other day right when you are in the middle of something and... Oh just another 15 or so need to go on?! When people have had problems over the years with particular updates the first solution was always to set the never check option!

If you rent a place to live, there are a number of things that you cannot legally do to/with the rental property.

When you "buy" an operating system from Microsoft, you are buying a license to use the OS. You don't own the OS and the license agreement comes with restrictions on what you can and cannot do to/with the OS.

I'm not defending MS. I'm just offering an analogy other than your Ford one.
