Hi, I replaced the failed 640GB harddrive with a 750 W/Digital & then full system reinstall with recovery disks made after laptop was purchased (july 2010). Now windows update won't work & messages - "Windows update cannot currently check for updates because the system is not running. You may need to restart your computer". There are four updates carried over with recovery disks but no 'Service Pack 1' & no updates since the system recovery. Have tried turning off & on Windows Updater in Services msc & rebooting, updating drivers, microsoft 'Fix-it' thing but to no avail. Have included CBS Logs file here. Windows ' system update readiness tool' wont load - install error ocx800247 . Thank's if you can help.

Hi, here is all the information. A bit new at this but think I have got it right.

1 - Downloaded SURT tool and ran it a few times. It took only a minute to run. Is that normal?

2 - Windows Update screen shot attached.

3 - CBS file attached.

Certainly learning a few things with this problem. Thanks if you can help.

Please re-read the instructions.

Having said that,
This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers -

Installing the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers
try downloading and installing them from here - https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=22194

(you want the iata_enu.exe download)

Once complete, please reboot twice, then try Windows Updates again

Hi Noel, many thanks. Downloaded the drivers as per instructions and it fixed the problem.

For future reference, did I post correctly the second time (as in Windows Update Posting Instructions). Your reply said to reread the instructions and I'm unsure where I went wrong. Anyway, thanks again.

The instructions stated to run SFC and the CheckSUR tool - and post both results.
Your upload was only for the CBS.log, with no CheckSUR data

Glad it seems to be fixed, anyhow - good luck!
