Managed to access Advanced Boot options. I held F8 then selected normal boot up and held F8 again and Advance Boot Options popped up. Trying your fix now. Will post results shortly.

logged in with username and password. Selected Command Prompt and followed instructions to locate mpkad file (C:).

Typed XCOPY c:\mpkad c:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h
And was given the message "Access Denied"

The news is not good - you have a counterfeit installation of Windows, and also probably of Office.
The installed Product Key is from an ACER machine - while the motherboard shows as being MSI
The installed version of Office is the most commonly-counterfeited version in history - and is a volume-licensed version.

I'm afraid that due to forum rules, I have to 'cease and desist' - we cannot assist counterfeit installs except to get them truly genuine.

It really is a shame - we were so close! :(

I wasn't aware. Looks like I'm off to buy a genuine version of Windows 7. Thanks for all your help. And I fully understand the forum policy. Thanks again.

For what version and edition of Windows is the machine currently licensed, according to the COA sticker on the case??

There isnat a COA sticker on the case of the PC and i dont have aWindows 7 disc. I bought the PC cheap at a computer fair and I guess Ive got what I paid for.

I know you cant help anymore but if i bought a genuine Windows 7 disc, which version should i be looking at? And would I be looking at a full reformat and reinstallation from scratch?

90% of 'available' Ultimate disks would be counterfeit - you're more likely to get a decent one of a lower edition.

Because you have Ultimate currently installed, any other edition would entail a reformat/reinstall - if you manage to find a legitimate Ultimate you could do a repair install.

Note that you'd need to purchase a Full License (either Retail or OEM System Builder) for whatever edition you get, since there's no apparent basis for an Upgrade.

Please also note that since you're unable to find any sign of a COA sticker, that would indicate that the current install is enabled by a hacker's Activation Exploit (which may or may not have partially broken down), and we would anyhow recommend a reformat/reinstall to remove any potential backdoors/Trojans which came along with the hack.

Not a problem - I just wish I'd though to ask for the MGADiag earlier, but there was no real indication of a problem until post #70+ :( - and I don't like asking for reports unless there are good reasons to do so.
