windows update settings

i recently ran windows update and found out that i could no longer change the settings for the update. in this link, http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2797-windows-update-settings-change.html, step 3, the install updates automatically is greyed out. i am using windows 7 32-bit ultimate. furthermore, it says that my settings is managed by my system administrator and i am the only user of the pc.

I think there are only restrictions in group policy not any damages -check this one

Judging by the yellow bar at the top of your Windows Update options window there are some settings that are prohibiting your ability to make it work as you desire. Normally, that should not be there (I don't have that yellow bar):

What information do you see when you click on "More Information" in the yellow bar?

HOW TO FILL OUT YOUR SYSTEM SPECS


In the line at the top of www.SevenForums.com you will see UserCP.
That is an abbreviation for User Control Panel.
Click on UserCP.
In the left-hand column, under Your Profile you will see Edit System Spec.
Click on Edit System Spec
You can copy and paste from the output of Speccy, Speccy - System Information - Free Download to fill out much of the info. Be sure to use the Other Info section of your System Specs for such info as your optical drive, your wireless adapter, your speakers, etc.

Hello Kelvin,

It looks like it may be either one of the settings highlighted in blue below in gpedit.msc under Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, and Windows Updates. The default setting for these should all be Not Configured if this is not the one.

You should check more options than mentioned in tutorial,instead I prepared stronger fix for registry to reset security settings for WU.

Download attached file to post,unpack it anywhere e.g on your desktop,import double click on *.reg file and next restart computer to apply changes.

this computer is sort of on a network at my university. i am connected via cable to the internet on my personal computer, which is this one.

If you don't use WSUS then import my fix to registry from post 9 + restart,without waste time to research deepler options in gpedit.msc...

Have you considered talking to the network administrator at your school?

Id did this and it worked

Just download this file and import it to registry.
