What did you use to make the backup image? Is there an associated boot CD? If so the CD should have sufficient drivers to access the external. If it's Windows backup I haven't used it, so I'll leave advice to someone with experience.

I have a seagate fo flex 2tb t external drive.. but I was unable to access it since i was unable to boot into the computer
so I did a reinstall, things were going ok but the reinstall would stop , I read it could be the memory so I removed 2 of the latest memory modules that i installed. things went great until i hook up the second monitor and started getting a black sceen with a dash
so i disconnected it and restarted and started doing the updates,
then when i install the seagate disc for my internal harddrive (the intenal hard drive is a seagate 1tb)
1 i started hearing clicking then all of a sudden I received the blue crash screen and the computer rebooted to do a start up repair
so i did a system restore
I have downloaded the avg 2013 virus and it just gave me a message the attach message
so i am not sure if i should delete this
at this point I am not sure if it is my vidoe card
hard drive
should i put the ram back in i had 4gb corsair
now there is only
2 gb
i am thinking of getting a new monitor
new video card
and new ram
any thoughts

Generally if you hear the drive clicking then the HD is dead doornail. I'm still not clear but I assume you used Windows backup?

This may be way off but it could be the power supply or graphics card too.

Ok thanks.
I am traveling for work this week and when i get home this weekend I am going to send the hard drive back to seagate.
as far as replacement graphic card, I am not sure if I can get the same one that is ddr2 everything nows seems to be ddr3
The power supply is about only a year old, I did end up replacing that and the cPU fan.

Seagate hard drives are a bit noisy. And if you want to use the full 4th, you need to use the 64-bit version.

so I will be sending it back to seagate. I reformatted the drive and still was unable to install win 7
I put in a drive I had laying around and my computer is up n running.. with a 400 gb western digital drive.thanks to all who responede. now the fight is on with seagate they want you to send the drive back after running seatools I am unable to get seatools to run or test it

If you have another computer, you could try hooking it up and run seatools on that.
