Welcome saf79 :D

Short answer is NO

If you are running win7 x64, you will need both, the reg program files is for 64 bit programs & the program files (x86) is for the 32 bit programs. Just enjoy it as it is and let Windows to the managing of it for you ;)

Are you positive of that?

Not saying you're wrong, but 32 bit Windows doesn't have a Program Files folder and a Program Files (x86). Only 64 bit Windows does.

Can you post a shot of the screen from Control Panel-System?

Strange. My 32-bit install only has the single folder. As mentioned previously in this thread, you only have the 2 folders on 64-bit systems in order to distinguish between 32-bit and 64-bit programs. At least, that's the theory. It doesn't always work though, but as long as your system knows where a program is, you should be OK.

As for why you've got both folders on a 32-bit OS, I'm not sure. Have you always had both, or did the extra one appear after installing some software? Are you having any other problems other than this issue?

Go to Start and under search type dxdiag.... Post your screen shot there. It will say what version you got. Strange? Also you need to update your system specs, you might not need Windows 64bit, so no need to spend the extra money.

What is in this Program Files (x86) folder? Could a program have created it for some reason? If there is only a single program in it, that may be the case.
