WLM problem

I have just set up a fix with WLM and the messages for the owner show in the inbox but on the right hand screen it gives me a message about - Download cancelled.
WLM was unable to download this message you requested.
It goes on to say If the message is taking too long to be displayed it might be temporarily unavailable. Please try to download the message later.

Now I have given it at least two hours and it still will not download any of the messages including a very short test one word message I sent from my machine the messages and I am at a loss as what to do.

Any ideas please as it is beginning to get on my nerves.

Well Rodey I am using it on an older XP machine and the interface is slightly different to my other machines.
To be completely honest I have always had problems with this program and this one is no exception I know I have to set the POP and IMAP or STMP for the in and out but as I mentioned just now I cannot get into these settings on this machine or I would set them for mail in hotmail.com and out hotmail.com but finding those settings now is proving to be a real trial.

I was rather hoping that as there are so many messages backed up that it would settle down as they were obviously transferred from an old Outlook account but this didn't happen. Now I have to ask the owner if I can delete say 5000 of the 6121 messages in there to see if it makes any difference. Plus the problem seems to be with sending too as I cannot find that out setting.

I am not as you reckon I hate to admit - a real genius with this networking and mail stuff and so I asked for some assistance

I will have to do a Google or two to see what I can find although I have done some and some of the stuff I have seen isn't all that clear to me as I ma as I said no software genius

I have seen if you go over 1000 emails the program tends to go funky, and what you are seeing is exactly what happens.
If you can remove a large portion you might find it finally works.
I have also seen emails over 1000, it stops sending or has a fit when more come in

ICit2lol I'm also not a expert.
If my memory is any good a long time ago on a friends XP system the volume of messages does cause the problem robinb9 has mentioned.
Now the real problem is getting permission to remove all those messages.
I have problems just getting rid of a years worth of cookies one some of these older folks computers. They think it will stop their computer from working.

Yep well I have removed all but 60 messages - there were 6121 of them but the problem still remains it's now telling me perhaps there is not enough memory or the disk space is almost all gone both of which are wrong as I have 2GB in and the drive I replaced with a 320GB so heaps of room to move.

A chkdsk and sfc came up nothing so I am running on fumes right now for ideas. So apart from uninstalling the Live Mail and starting from scratch I bogged down.

Just out of curiousity I know this machine has Outlook on it and I ma wondering would this have any affect on the WLM??

Hi ICit2lol

Sorry for the delay in replying.
As your using Hotmail you should not have any problems by doing this.
1, remove all accounts from WLM
2, sign-out then sign-in.
-
When you sign-in you will get the option to add your account. Input your account username & password then leave it to MS to complete. This method works without POP or IMAP being used. If you want it set up using POP I can help.

As roderunner said, if you are using a hot mail account as the main account, then deleting the account and setting up a new one, all should be fine but, if that hotmail account had all 6000 emails guess what you will get them all back. If this was a hot mail account then go on the browser first and remove emails from there first so they all do not come flooding in
If this an account that you just set up and has very little emails in it, then when you make again a new same account you should be fine
I or roderunner depending on the time zone can help you set up a pop account

Oh and outlook should have no effect on WLM

Sorry for late reply Rodey and Robin I left my wifi at home last night and couldn't get on the net.

Ok I will close it all down again and do what you say what I don't get is I set the POP to mail.hotmail.com and I think I missed doing just that in the SMTP section for out going like I usually do. It is very frustrating though to see the mails sitting there and it telling me it cannot "unpack" them.

Now it is probably me but I always have this problem whenever I set up WLM on a machine and end up having to reset the Live password for some reason.

Ok I have deleted the account I set for her with her old hotmail address and made a new one with hotmail.

I set the POP (in) to mail.hotmail.com and the SMTP (out) to mail.hotmail.com


But it is still not sending or receiving and find an error 0x800CCC67.

I did verify the Hotmail account with Microsoft before I set the mail up and am now at a loss as to what to do.

I am wondering if I should uninstall the WLM and reinstall it just to see if that will work but will wit till I hear back from you folks.

What anti virus on machine, only asking cos some have mail scanners that will do this, disable mail scanner if it has one and see if that works.

Thanks Anak it does throw up that error and one that ends in 90 and 80.
The thing is it doesn't seem to be able to get away from the Outlook and the WLM on start up doesn't show the year either.
It does give a message saying connecting which changes to Authorizing and then quickly goes to a login window and I enter the username and password but it cycles in that over and over.
I might just try the WMutil as I am thinking I have nothing to lose. But for the minute I am going to take a break as I worked last night and am really not that awake enough to do anymore.

Your welcome IC, if you're seeing a 421 error that's on the server side. 421 - The service is not available and the connection will be closed.

It might, just make sure the one you're working on is the default mail program.

Why are you setting up the hotmail account with pop? Why are you not allowing WLM to auto set it up, it should set it up without using a pop account

Sorry late reply again these are the screens I get when I set up a new account I have tried mail.hotmail.com mail.live.com and the pop3.live.com and as Roderunner has in the attachments. But nothing is working and I am wondering if the old XP has got it wrong and maybe I should reinstall the live??
