WLM problem

Return to the first image you posted, all you need is the email address & password. Display name can be left blank but is editable once the account is set up. Don't use the Manual config box.

Roadrunner, i have 2 hotmail accounts, one live mail account and one msn account all done through the wizard all not pop and i never have problems with it in WLM and i have had them for about 7 yrs

Important note if you are using POP

By default, Windows Live Mail will not remove messages from the server after you download them. Instead, it will delete messages off the server after you delete them from the “Deleted Items” folder. This will cause your mail spool on our mail server to fill up if you don’t empty the Deleted Items folder from time to time. This is done by right-clicking the Deleted Items folder and selecting “Empty Deleted Items folder”.

If you would rather not be bothered by this, we recommend you set Windows Live Mail to delete messages from the server after downloading. This way you will never have to worry about going over quota. Here’s how to do this:

I couldn't find either settings on my WLM12, but then I don't have it set-up or use it.
WLM sure doesn't make it easy to find information, even within the program; I believe its a Microsoft thing!!

Maybe Robin can confirm these findings??


And John, if you go to that LMi site, I've seen the port settings of 465 for outgoing, and 995 for incoming on a lot of sites. Some are specific especially the incoming if the account has its own server like a University or Business. These are the same settings I have for my gmail, it wouldn't hurt to try them.

One other try is to not configure the settings manually, when you fill out that first window to add an account just click on next and see what happens. WLM just might pick up the ports automatically.

No, i had to uninstall the program and reinstall and had to put each account back separately
And all was there
The only way to delete the account permanently is to log in via the web and go into your account there and there is an option to permanently delete the account, that is the only way to wipe the account, amd microsoft makes it very hard for you to find this option.
When deleting it from wlm you are only deleting it from the program

I deleted my msn account (which is a livemail account also) on one of the 7 computers it is on because i did not want all the spam it brings in on this computer only, it still showed up on all the other 6 computers and i logged in on the browser and all was still there including its contact list, i have a different contact list for it that is how i know it was still there

And i agree with Anak, let microsoft find the hotmail account, i do not see a problem with that as long as you have the correct username and password

windows live mail will delete mail from the server when you delete the email from the deleted folder ONLY.
If you leave it in the Deleted folder it just sits there,
There are no settings in WLM to Leave it on the Server Unless you set it up as a POP Account then you have the option in the Email account to check off Leave on Server and when

If you allow Microsoft to set it up, it is not set up as a pop account and then it is controlled by the web server. If you delete the account on WLM only as I have on my post above, it does NOT delete your account. You have to delete it by logging into http://live.com and delete it that way ONLY.

Ok Roderunner I have set the WLM as you said now it is sending through test messages through but all are now received as junk mail even though I added my address her contact list.
Now I can mark them not junk but I don't quite know how to set the junk block.
Could this possibly be the free Avast Iput on for her as there was NO security on the machine when I got it for a fix??


It is sending messages from her machine to mine which is such a relief as I was beginning to think the machine was going to have to be scrapped. But thanks to all I am so appreciative of everyones input

So far so good, now you need to check if your friend is using WLM signed-in, if not, contacts, blocked & safe senders wont be remembered. My zip will help slightly as the version in your friends pc will be visually different on the XP pc.

Thanks George we must have been typing almost at the same time so I got your mail before I had finished. I had found those settings but I hadn't set them quite as you say but have now and saved that document too. The only difference was this one did not have the Trust Centre.

Thanks fr the heads up with gmail stuff too as I would have been floundering with it when I came up upon it next.

All she has to do now is let her contacts know of the new address I set up which she says she doesn't mind so alls well that ends well.

Our mail system here sometimes is very slow and at time requires a close down and reopen the WLM for stuff to download but at least it works
