Solved Word 2010 Question

Hello,

I am editing an important (for me) document. When I go in to make changes some of the time the print stretches out. Spaces between letters get bigger. When sent docx to print those effects remain.

What do I do to stop this I've looked and scanned through "Dummies" to no avail.

I need help on this! I just don't have a clue.

First, before you do anything, make sure you make a couple of back-up copies of your important document so that your experimenting with changes won't jeopardize the original.

Have you tried changing the settings in the Normal template of the document? For example, one way to change the spacing is, on the Word page with the problem open the Ribbon, go to the Home section, go to the Styles section. In Styles, right-click on Normal, and select: Modify. At the bottom-left corner select: Font, and change the settings for font spacing. When you're done, at the bottom of the screen, be sure to click on: New documents based on this template, or This document only, and click on OK.

Another way of changing the spacing is to go back to the Fonts screen, and at the top of the page select Character Spacing. Follow the on-screen directions for changing the spacing settings and/or the kerning settings.

You might also try setting up a new customized template rather than using the Normal template. Then, transfer your document over to the new doc with the customized template.

Also, just for the record, sometimes just the act of making the changes actually corrects the underlying problem. For example, sometimes you can make a change, close the app, re-open it and change back to the original setting --- and yet, whatever corruption was causing the problem somehow mysteriously disappears. Same thing with re-booting the system -- that too sometimes will make a difference.

I'm not at a computer with Word 2010 right now but it almost sounds like you have the paragraph format set to JUSTIFIED. Change to LEFT JUSTIFIED and see if that corrects it to what you want.

I agree with GEWB. You would need to select either the whole document or the paragraph in question, then touch the Left-justify button.

Word 2010 question

Thank you evryone!

I was here the other night and saw all the help I was receiving. I'm responding tonight to thank you. Tommorrow morn. I'll start in on this. I have made the two back up copies (something I've never done before).

I'm kinda slow, I think I'll start off with the left justification thing first then go from there.

Here's another question it's been happening as I typed this piece. This is my first laptop - when I'm typing if I don't look up more than usual the cursor skips somewhere else. I've never had this happen before. I try to keep track of my thumb when it hits space bar ( I think I am missing it) but I don't do it when I'm watching for it just when I'm getting settled into a brisk typying pace. Any ideas? I've been doing this for a few now and my typying is getting slower as a result.

I hope the paragraph justification works for you.

As to your cursor jumping on your laptop, I wish you could hear me laughing as I type this reply! Not laughing at you but remembering the first week I used a laptop with a touchpad AND my facing the SAME issues as I type on this new tablet!

My but the touchpad was difficult to get used to - I didn't realize just how often my fingers or hand actually touch the pad.

Hang in there, you'll get the hang of it.

I could hear you laughing and it was a blast! The great thing is that I have a confirmation and will relax a little.

I edited the spelling on my last post, hit the post button and it didn't take. It's my fault, with computers and software I have to learn the hardway. Ooops, now you've got me laughing GEWB...

Suggestion

If you have an available USB port, purchase a wireless mouse and turn off the touch pad on the laptop (I finally went that route and use it 90% of the time). Cost range is typically $12 to $30 USD. Not applicable to most tablet systems.

I agree entirely with this statement.

I sometimes use my wife's Sony Vaio and couldn't figure out why the cursor kept jumping about without reason.

It turned out I was using a wireless mouse with the Sony touchpad pointing device still enabled. I do prefer a mouse to the touchpad wherever possible, so I just disable the touchpad when I'm using a mouse.

I use a Logitech wireless mouse, which cost me £10 ($15).

I use a wireless mouse. I did not know that I could turn the touch pad off.

Here's breaking news for me. Looks like my original problem is solved. Here's how it went: I highlighted a problem paragraph. As instructed, I looked and it was in fact "justified" I then saw a shrinking of space between the letters most places when I went Left. One glaring space remained (F reedom ...) that was removed when I went back into the Font box and saw the space box blank hitting the scroll down bar and clicking "Normal" bing - space gone.
Folks this is big for me! The hours that I spent laboring and reading through the 2010 word manual, and dummies book. This is so cool I am elated!
