write to system32 folder

I have no direct experience with usb 3.0, so I am going to bow out. I'm sure there are others who do have direct experience.

Well how about answering this from my earlier post

One more STUPID question.

The official name of the External Drive is Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex DESK.

Does this mean that it will only work for desktop computers?

I do not see how this could be possible when the drivers being used are system drivers.

I would say that the Seagate people are the best people to ask.

I have another idea. This weekend I am going to install VMWare on my machine and I am going to do a clean install of windows 7 into the VM and see if that works.

This is strange Guys....This is supposed to be a forum for advice but here we have 2 replies from different people, both with the "Seven Guru" status and both are giving contradictory advice to a Junior member asking the original question. How is that member supposed to come to the correct conclussion over taking ownership? Personally, I am one of the "logicearth" advice group since it would be too easy to screw your system. The first question that I would like to have seen asked of the OP was..."Why are you trying to update the drivers by writing directly to the system32 directory instead of using the manufacturers program to update the drivers?"
Please note this is just my opinion and I appreciate that both gurus are trying to help th OP out.. but you must admit, any newbies could easy be confused".

Very good point , i should have been clearer , i meant to take ownership of the file inside the system32 folder ,my bad.

OK so I did a clean install of Windows 7 into the VM, powered it on, plugged in the drive, and what do you know, the External Drive now WORKS!!!. So this must mean that something is wrong with my system drivers on the computer itself.

Gammaman, did you try replacing the drivers the way I suggested on page 2 of this topic? If so, what result?
