as of yesterday everytime i start up my win7 i get a window asking me to run "wssetup by Perlon network LTD"

have so far hit cancel and not allowed the process, god knows where it came from. Done the usual searches which some sites say its "incredimail" notoriously difficult to remove, some say its as safe as houses and some say its a threat tho dont elaborate.
Have run antimalwarebytes and superantispyware and they find nothing. Have run msconfig and under Boot tab and startup tab there is no sign of it, so you can see my problem.
guessing someone will know about this and provide a solution.

You can use MS Autoruns (free) to try and find where this program is attempting to run from on startup.
Autoruns lists much more info and startup locations than msconfig.

many thanks to david for the very helpful ms autoruns link this has worked very well and shows me an awful lot of what i did not know.
sadly it doesnt find this wssetup prog which i am still unsure about as this program does not try to run on startup but waits until my pc has fully booted and ready to roll, then it appears hence it cannot be found in start up searches etc.
my only cure seems to be a full uninstall format and reinstall of win7 after my drive is clean.
just wish i knew what the program was or how it got on my pc and more importantly how to stop it.

thanks again

I've experienced the same since Monday, when I visited a site which was hacked. (as the site owner told me today). Everytime I boot the computer it asks to allow to install, and I cant get rid of it...

What is the "wssetup.exe" ?

In most cases this file is the installation package digitally signed by Perion Network Ltd. (check more on Perion). This company produces few famous applicatons, mainly

IncrediMail - free email program
Incredimail for iPad - free email program for iPad
PhotoJoy - transforms photos into collages and animated screensavers
Smilebox - provides mobile and desktop social photo sharing services
SweetIM - the most spread package for instant messengers, which adds animations (winks), emoticons (smileys), sounds, videos and games
Probably this executable is part of the SweetIM package, but there is no additional info included in the file.

Take a look at your Services (you can type service in the Start search box for this)
Sort by Startup Type, and look at those with "Automatic (Delayed Start)"
See if you can find anything suspicious that is not an MS service.
Maybe you will find something for Incredimail, etc.

See if you can find the wssetup file and upload it to VirusTotal for scanning.

This relatively new thread has over 1900 views.
To me that seems unusually high!
Seems like a LOT of people are searching for wssetup, and reading this...

Hi,
I've experienced the same problem as the OP and have downloaded autoruns. I have found SweetIM and Sweetpacks Communicator listed there. How do I go about removing it? Will an uninstall via the control panel be adequate?

I've found the solution (at least on my computer).
typed MSCONFIG in run box at the startup menu, than under the Automatic Startup page checked out the 'Sweet Packs Update Manager' and now my computer starts normally. So I think this program was the agressiive try from Sweet Pack to be installed on my PC. Good luck!

Thanks, I've just done this and it appears to have solved the problem (for now at least) :).

Here is a idea.
It these programs cause problems and the owner of the site states he has been hacked; why not remove the programs?

Hi all, Just registered for this forum.......5 mins ago....and saw the wssetup.exe problem a lot of people are having.

I get the same problem when I switch on and the system boots up.......5 mins later up pops the Perion Network Ltd box etc.

last night my son had a go at deleting a program from the program listing list, and it appeared to work, but this morning the thing is back again.

I'm going to try the solution posted in post #8 by Trexmark.

I'll post when I give it a go.
Ian.

Hi all, back again.......well I went to control panel and clicked on "programs and features" and deleted the Sweet packages (2 off) of whatever they "were" called previously, having found out they were connected to Perion Network Ltd etc...........so switched off and rebooted and now it appears there is no more Wssetup.ex request to make changes to this computer.

When the "remove this program" and "uninstall" functions were completed I got a box saying "sorry to see you go " etc, so hopefuly this is a fix.

Thanks all for your help.....being a driver and completely ignorant of what happens under the bonnet computer wise.
Ian.

Hi Layback, I think it's working OK, at least when I switched off and back on the Perion thing was absent.

Thanks for the help.

Your very welcome. Remember that most things like what you had normally come with something else you downloaded. So a close eye on your downloads should help.
Happy computing.

I was able to track wssetup.exe to C:\Users\Appdata\Local\Temp, but when I deleted it, it simply reinstalled to the same folder next start-up. I had SweetIM at one time but had uninstalled it. When I searched my programs however there was still an updater associated with SweetIM. I uninstalled that as well and the wssetup.exe then stopped installing and asking permission to run.
as of yesterday everytime i start up my win7 i get a window asking me to run "wssetup by Perlon network LTD"

have so far hit cancel and not allowed the process, god knows where it came from.

Hi, I had 2 files in my programs list with the name Sweet as part of it, so as I found that these are part of the Perion thingy, I removed them by going into my Control Panel and doing a remove program exercise on the 2 programs that had Sweet in the title.......so far (3 days) nothing has come out of the woodwork.
