You have been logged into a temporary profile

It didn't work

I purchased the registry cleaner, and I am still having the same problem. Things were working fine on my netbook until I created two more user accounts in windows. After that, every time I log in to my main account, I get the message about logging in with a temporary profile. Help?

Welcome to the forums. Try sfc /scannow.

Thanks for the response. I am not sure what sfc /scannow is, but I would bet it is a program I could find. I ended up deleting the account and starting another one. That seems to have taken care of the problem.

Thanks again.

also do a check disk...
open a elevated command prompt and type this (if C: is not the windows drive letter then change it to what it should be)
chkdsk C: /R
and press enter
that should look around and check your disk for bad sector unreable files and such
this might be a early sign of file corruption and a small chance of this HDD corruption.

I know this is 5 months old now, but did you manage to get a fix for it?
Same problem on my test pc.
First off, I dont suppose you've set yourself up on your own domain? Im getting the same error when using a test account, but my main account seems fine. Both are domain users.
I've got to get it working as a proof of concept that folder redirection works via domain gpo.

I can reproduce the "temporary profile" problem without fail.

Laptop power off.
Plug in verizon usb stick.
Laptop power on
Problem occurs.

Laptop power off.
Remove verizon usb.
Laptop power on.
After windows starts up, then:
Insert verizon usb stick.
Null Problemo!

If I remember correctly, I also produced the same problem when I had the bios set to boot first from USB (which I don't now), and had a non-bootable external drive attached.

In both cases, we note that the problem is / was USB-related.

Also have an Asus ha1002xp netbook with Win 7 Ultimate installed.
Hopefully this helps some.

Tried all these items and finally figured out what my issue was. Hope it helps.
Repeatedly logging in one particular user into temp profile on brand new computer. Tried another user on that computer = no issue. Tried that use on another computer = having issue again. This user has been in our client's domain for years, with no reported issues. Upon reviewing AD account further, found that someone had set her Profile Path: incorrectly. They had entered the name of the login script into this field instead. The Win7 box was attempting to save the profile elsewhere, but could not. Removed from Profile Path: option and placed in login script area, and issue fixed.

You have been logged on with a temporary profile

Found a resolution the issue where I could not logon with a permanent profile. Note sure what caused it, but went into the USER profile section, deleted all the extraneous profiles not in use and then tried to delete my company\user profile. Would not let the local machine account do that nor the master domain admin. But was able to rename my user.domain profile to OLDuser.domain.

Then the next time I logged on, it didn't see a conflict with the old corrupted profile and the new profile it wanted to save, and I was able to logon just fine. So if you can't clear that old corrupted profile out, just rename it. It might work for you like it did for me.

Temporary Profile starts at random

well if the problem is on 2 computers it cant be hardware related...i guess it must be some file or some property which is same on both the laptop ad desktop....

any tweak you have done common on both systems? or u may have a file shared which was infected?

as of me these can be the reasons...do have a look on these...
Entirely possible. It may also be an issue with the RC. I never had it with the Beta. It's not a big deal, so I will wait until RTM comes out, and hopefully the problem with be gone.

~Lordbob

I have had this problem for a couple of months now , but have been using Windows7 for >3 years

I have exactly the same synario : switch computer on; message says arranging desk top ( or some such) then the message you have been logged in with a temporary profile and some file may not be accessible.

If I do a ctrli.alt .delt and choose a new user t does not cure the problen ... often shutting down and restarting does not cure it either ...... HOWEVER, if I alt.del.ctrl and LOG OFF the I do get the usual desktop I am used to and every thing is OK .....This occurs completely at random . I can go days with out it occuring and the it can happen twice in one day

I hope this helps temporarily ...... do a CTRL.ALT.DELT and log off and the computer will revert to your normal system/profile with out having to switch off

If any one has apermanent answer please let me know Also what is RTM?

Hello Somersetisimon,

My issue was resolved with the RTM release (I got mine in August). If you are not running RTM, then that is my first recommendation.

If you are, then open up command prompt (run as admin) and type this:
Code:
sfc /scannow
~Lordbob

I have this random start up problem also .Login temp profile. it only started about three months ago and I have been using W7 for about 3 years ...
So! what is RTM please and how do I get it?
BTW a short fix is ctrl alt del and log off your correct profile then loads automatically
