  • You can only do this while logged into an administrator account.
  • This will also rename the Network desktop icon as well.

This, and a different simplified method, works but when I reboot, the icon gets renamed back to the default NETWORK.

Hello Sandra,

Double check to see if you might have a LocalizedString entry in the right pane at the location below like in step 6. If so, delete it.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CLSID\{F02C1A0D-BE21-4350-88B0-7367FC96EF3C}

In addition, double check the locations below to make sure that the value for LocalizedString has been changed for each of them like in step 5 and 6.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Wow6432Node\CLSID\{F02C1A0D-BE21-4350-88B0-7367FC96EF3C}

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{F02C1A0D-BE21-4350-88B0-7367FC96EF3C}

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Classes\CLSID\{F02C1A0D-BE21-4350-88B0-7367FC96EF3C}

Hope this helps,
