Solved New CCC 10.12 drivers

@ Solarstarshines

No worries it takes me 5 minutes to uninstall the NVIDIA drivers, go into my BIOS and set the onboard as boot and try out the drivers and do the same process reverse to go back to the discrete card (been there done that with NVIDIA onboard and ATI discrete). Of course I can always go to my bro's HD 4770 and try it there but I'd have to update all his drivers for him cause he's never up to date. I was actually contemplating between a 6850 vs GTX 460 vs 6870 during the upgrade process, I really wanted to stay with AMD for the sake of unity (AMD chipset and videocard) but didn't care if I got a NVIDIA 400 series or AMD 6000 series card cause I really only wanted DivX, Xvid and MPEG-4 hardware acceleration and Folding @ Home support found on both brands now. But AMD vs NVIDIA prices here in Canada are about the same and the NVIDIA card I'm getting comes with 4 free games, PhysX as a bonus (PhysX is as useless as Eye of Infinity to me, I don't care for it), runs quieter compared to AMD counter part (higher end model with better heatsink) and has overclocking ability beating out the HD 6870 (and I'm talking about a maximum overclocked HD 6870). Still, by the way it looks AMD has gone in the right direction with the 6000 series, the new support for folding @ Home, UVD 3.0 and the built in video converter in the newly revised Catalyst Control Center is a huge change since the ATI brand was officially dropped, that's the reason why I really wanted to stay with AMD; I have a feeling more bigger better things are to come for Radeon users, 10.12's is just the beginning.

Anyhow, enjoy your new Catalyst Control Center Radeon users!

:p

Do not forget about Driver Sweeper before installing a new Catalyst version. Mind that this preview release is not WHQL, and in the process of installation you have to click "Install this driver anyway". For best installation results temporarily disable your AV and Firewall.

If you haven't already - wait for the hotfixes.

Stock 10.12's are pretty bad drivers overall for many different users.

For 5xxx users - Stick with 10.10e as the 'officals' break MLAA for that series of cards. Plus they are still newer '3D' drivers than these things.

This is not a magic repeat of the 9.12 awesomeness from a year ago. This is an antithesis release by comparison.

In other words - they suck.

I have been routinely updating the Catalyst drivers - though not a gamer, overclocker and a video-enthusiast.

But after reading the above two posts, I was in a dilemma whether at all I should upgrade from 10.11 and if I so decide whether to uninstall the old driver, run Driver Sweep 2.7.5 in safe mode and clean it spic and span before installing the 10.12 preview.

Looking into what all it installs, I found that the USB Filter Driver,CCC,AHCI compatible Sata RAID driver, etc., will all remain the same and a complete uninstall will remove these in the first instance. I was now a little apprehensive, in particular whether the removal of the Raid drivers will create any problems for my RAID setup. The fear of the unknown!

Finally, I decided to install it over the existing version. The installation went super smooth. No problems whatsoever.( I had jettisoned Zone Alarm long back, never to look into it anytime again, since it has always been a problem after a certain update - fail to remember exactly what version.)

So, IMO, one need not be such a paranoid as to do a complete cleanup and a fresh install on a clean slate. Those measures can be resorted to only if one encounters a problem and not otherwise.

I always just install over the previous drivers. Never had a problem. I've also never had a problem with ATI/AMD drivers. I read a lot of people saying they're bad and buggy. I can honestly say I've never had that issue.

As a general rule - yes that is true.

Over the top installation for the most part usually works as promised. It is certainly not necessary to do it for every new driver installation. Especially when installing the official 'WHQL' driver versions.

Driver Cleaning only needs to be done if:

A) You have an existing broken installation

B) You are reverting to an older set

I've also never had a problem with ATI/AMD drivers. I read a lot of people saying they're bad and buggy. I can honestly say I've never had that issue.

Not everybody does mate, and I'm not being sarcastic or anything of that ilk when I say this - but you are lucky - and are a vocal minority :)

Bugs only become apparent when the need arises when you discover that 'uh oh - this isn't right'.

Personally, due to my usage (crossfire / Eyefinity across a wide variety of titles - I am exponentially exposed to more bugs than other users may not be.

I even have two separate Windows installations with differing driversets because driverset A works fine with some titles, but WILL not work well with others and vice versa.

I also try a lot of hotfix drivers which precludes me from the typical 'install over the top' ease. I often have to use driver sweeper because of this.

Speaking of hotfixes:

AMD Catalyst

AMD Catalyst driver 10.12a Hotfix Feature:

AMD Catalyst driver support for systems running Windows® 7 with an AMD Radeon™ HD 69xx series graphics card installed

Includes support for 5x1 AMD Eyefinity display configurations

Nice!

Just upgraded from a HD 5770 to a GTX 460, I'm still going to try the 10.12's with my onboard HD 4250.

:p

the onboard is something you should leave alone if you have a installed a gtx460 installing the ati drivers for the intergrated graphics might conflict you I might be wrong depending if your particular chipset ask for the update if not i would leave it alone you will for sure BSOD your unit

I do not know if this really has anything to do with your card at all. But I have a HD 4200 integrated. I installed 10.12 It works just fine for mine. ll I did was and and put in my stuff where it tells you to put your info it finds the newest driver. And the 10.12 popped up. SO i think it will work just fine with the 420 series. Unless it your is some how different. But from what I have been told all the 4200 series are pretty much the same other than integrated and none integrated.

how come my ccc gui is still the same one as the old one?

There is a check box in the installation screen I believe.

hmm i dont see it..
all i see is Catalyst Control Center (when i choose custom) and no other options.

and that option is the one that gives the old GUI

Are you sure you downloaded the right installation? Just to be sure double check. Make sure you choose all the right hardware. If you have integrated and all that. Just to be sure I would double check. If you are still seeing the old one. It must be the old one then. Did you go straight to the AMd site and get the installation? Make sure you did. just delete and try again if possible.

here is what it looked like at my download screen. I have a ATI Radeon HD 4200 integrated on windows 7 64 bit.

That is the only one there is that goes with the Mobility series. So that has to be the one for your computer. If it is not. Then I recommend trying a full uninstall before installing it again. there might be something left over getting in the way.

Tbh, I don't know if it's a mobility issue- or if it's even included in the latest official Cat download. (I personally haven't even d/l them let alone tried installing, so I can't say one way or the other).

But if you look at the attached screenie:

cccinstaller.jpg

it shows a checkbox selection for 'Catalyst Control Center 2'. If this is present and ticked, this will install the 'new look GUI'. Otherwise the it will default to the 'old' interface upon installation.

Check out Rage3D forums - a quicker answer may found that way.

Yes I think you are right. I have just done the same thing for my cousin. she had a 4250 Radeon Mobility. I did her an update also. And she did not get the new CCC either. So I think you are right. Mobility users just do not have it yet. I do know it is brand new and I think it is still a kind of beta version. I am not sure if it has really been officially released yet. Though it does come up when you search ATI for new graphics driver updates

I updated to 10.12 today, and had issues with it when it came to movie playback.

All my HD movies just crashed Nero Showtime saying the file was corrupt. I thought it may have something to do with Hardware acceleration.

So, tried them in WMP, (which is using FFDsow codec) and the same thing happened.

I used Acronis and restored the image before updating the Drivers and all works flawlessly again. (10.9 where I was)

Anyone else notice a video playback problem with 10.12? Might just be me.

CCC and it's overDrive

I can't or won't judge at the moment. It seems the 10.12 version of the ATI drivers are broke as far as the CCC and it's overDrive section. Before this version of CCC I was able to overclock my video card very satisfactorily. Now all efforts fail. Don't quite understand the reason...

Hmm.. I didnt even try OCing.
Once I realized HW accelerated HD playback was broken, that was it for me.

Games seemed to play fine though.

There was certainly something ot right.
Glad to know it wasn't just me that a a few issues with it.

For now Im staying with 10.9. That one seems to be just perfect overall for my setup.

I have had no issues at all. I had one failure when I first installed it. Have not had another one since.
