Latest Internet Explorer 9 Release

I got sick of MS changing their gui style everytime they rollout a new major version of software, they seem to enjoy forcing people to change usage habits.

This aside IE9 doesnt fix some major missing features.

1 - cannot unclose tabs.
2 - can only remember state of most recently window closed, that state is also lost if you dont restore it on the next window you open.
3 - no multi row tabs.

I think the recently opened tabs refers to those site you've accessed individually
via the address bar, rather that those sites you might have navigated to via, say Bing, etc..

it does work, though..

- try opening a few tabs from the address bar or via favourites, when you close them down
they should appear as a list, via the recently opened tabs option..
- provided you haven't re-booted in the meantime..

Recently closed tabs list the last website you visited before closing the tab. Reopening it also reopens the history one has made while browsing in that tab.

And even upon closing the browser, there is always History.

On my IE8 I had Acrobat9pro which had a convert button which converted an entire webpage to a pdf, is there such a tool available for IE9x64, I noticed that button isn't present on the 64 bit version of IE9 ?


Also when I save a file it won't open from IE9x64, if I try to directly open it that doesn't work either. Have to save as, pick a location, then drill the folders to find the file and open it directly. Something in IE9x64 is preventing it from opening files with other programs. I tried turning off Smart Screen filter, no help.

Thanks, is there something similiar as far as an add-on that would capture and save a webpage well on IE9x64? I guess I could print to pdf that would be as good I would think ?

Web page loading progress in status bar - Really Miss It!

Maybe something is missing in my beta IE9 but I really do miss the progress bar that would display in the status bar. i.e. I click on a website and kind of wait in the dark wondering if it's loading or just locked up. I hope progress status is in the next release.

Yes, I miss the progress bar too. Haven't had one since, what? IE 6 or 7. . . It would be great if Microsoft brought it back!

it's probably something that the BETA does automatically..

if you have installed it, the 64-bit version of IE9 will essentially become the default..

when you think about it, that makes sense - as the 64-bit version is easily capable of handling 32-bit, if and when necessary..

If you open the 64 bit version of IE and go to the Programs tab and look under Default web browser, you will see that it says "Internet Explorer (64-bit) cannot be made the default browser". Also "Make Default" will be grayed out. If IE is the default browser "Make Default" will also be grayed out if you open the same menu in IE (32-bit). There have been several of us that have tried to make IE 9 (64-bit) the default browser and failed. If IE is not open and you click a link to a web site in an e-mail, IE 32 bit will open by default. I think there is a discussion on this in this thread.

I would have lol'ed too if my IE beta actually worked correctly but in turned it was a blurry mess i had to uninstall the madness before i took it out on my monitor lol safe to say im not in no hurry to look at my monitor like i had too much to drink

- I have no knowledge of MS policy on this one, as I'm just the Average-Joe user, myself..
- but, it seems to me that is the way it should be during the BETA phase..
- after all, a good deal of the testing is done in the real world, using existing software technology
- and while many apps and add-ins are being updated, some developers are using this as an opportunity to upgrade their products' capabilities during the change-over,
- consequently some, like Adobe, are still BETA-testing their own updated 64-bit apps, etc..

- for the present, if a site requires 32-bit to function correctly, as many still do - to autodefault to that system would be the best solution..

- I haven't actually got a clue, but that's er, how it seems to me..
