Solved Ready to shoot PC, or myself. :( Please help...

Yes Pls do that immediately.
Also, type msconfig in run box (hit Windows key+R) and uncheck every HP related item in startup tab. Apply and restart (it'll probably ask itself to do so).
And as others said, get rid of the bloatware. Use this tool- Welcome | The PC Decrapifier
Create a restore point first though in case if you need to revert back.
Try running 'ipconfig /flushdns' in an elevated command prompt (without the quotes).
Just my 2 cents. You're already being handled by experts.

Thanks for the .02 ezio...

MikeC, what do you think?

OK. That modem has a maximum data rate of 34Mbit/s . I think that's your main problem, along with the Symantec AV, the bloatware and other stuff may well be a nuisance in general, and is best removed, ( but at your leisure, not while trouble shooting). Use your normal windows "Programs and Features", "Uninstall" to remove what you want to remove, and only remove things you are sure about. If necessary, ask here first.

So, basically you need another modem really. Which modem were you using before you got this PC?

I have no idea of the relevance of that... is it sufficient, or a better modem suggested?

You should install another antivirus program as soon as possible. For most people the Microsoft Security Essentials is adequate.

I wouldn't say go out and spend money buying a new modem when the OP has said this problem only cropped up on this new PC.

Mike- This modem was provided by Charter. I have already been back to see them 5 times in the last year needing different modems. This one was the newest, grabbed 2 weeks ago for the eMachine, because the modem before that was not compatible with Windows 7. I guess I will have to go back and talk to them, or buy one of my own. What do you suggest as minimum specs or parameters for a modem for this PC and what I need?

MikeC (AND EVERYBODY ELSE!) THANK you so much for your help. You are kind, kind, way too kind!
I will get the Security Essential right away. :)

Thanks again, you guys are the best!

If you want to get another Modem/router anyway, then go for a wired router with a built in firewall.

Some info; Wired Routers

This can save you a lot of problems.

I would just drop drive C and put plain old win 7 on let win 7 do the work drop all the crap that hp has put on it.

1 day old machine will be junk with all the crap on it but at least you have a recovery section made for any none savvy person to reinstall from factory ;)

instructions to do so are in your paper work

Failing that put it back in its box and go buy an acer wink wink

i have a unbranded 22" touch screen on the first day of having it i formated it to drop the bloatware and now it runs fine and IF i need to take it back il just run the recovery thats what its there for.

How much are you paying per month to rent the cable modem ?

I just got a New Linksys in Oct from NewEgg :D $ 59.99 Currently :D

:ar: Newegg.com - LINKSYS CM100 Ethernet Port Cable Modem with USB and Ethernet Connections

I'm paying $5/month. $59 is doable! My only worry is I've been through 5 modems in the last year, and at least I can go trade it for free at Charter.

Would you guys recommend it (buying one)? Any benefit other than paying $60 up front rather than $60/year? Better performance than what I have?

OK, that sounds right. I also have Charter and everytime I have problem they can't find anything. As I had my own Modem they would say it is my problem. I now rent from them at $5 a Month and have inside wire maintenance for $5.95 a Month so now they can't tell me its my problem. The last time they changed out a Ubee modem for a Motorola SB6120 and been good for a few Months. Maybe she can talk them into the SB6120.

Indeed, it's always somebody else's fault! :) At least if you rent them you can usually get them replaced without too much trouble, and as you write, they can't say it's your fault if their modem doesn't work! :) Although this can be more expensive in the long run it may still be the best option for many.

I want to go back to the subject of the Norton Antivirus Removal just for a moment because there's a huge issue that needs to be dealt with before another problem is caused.

When deleting Norton Antivirus the NORTON REMOVAL TOOL (|MG| Norton Removal Tool 2011.0.1.9 Download) should always be used, rather than the system's uninstall process through Programs and Features. Uninstalling Norton Antivirus through Programs and Features causes huge conflict problems with other software, primarily other antivirus software. Many experts even suggest that before installing any new antivirus software, running the Norton Removal Tool twice, and then doing an Advanced Search of the whole system (not just the Index) for any Norton remnants left behind after removal. The Norton Removal Tool link above is from MajorGeeks, but can also be gotten from Symatics itself, which also recommends using the Tool.

PS These huge conflict problems happened to me when I first got a brand new HP Pavillion last year --- and the problems were so enormous and unfixable that HP actually replaced my laptop and gave me a new one, because the the problems caused by uninstalling the Norton created total havoc on the system, and after weeks on the phone with HP tech support, they could not clean up my system.
