XP's Calculator on 7?

Is there a copy of Windows XP's calculator that can replace Windows 7's calculator?

I really don't like the new split formats of the calculator. On XP's I can use HEX as well as do actual math without having to switch between them. On Windows 7's, well, I can't. For my needs, windows XP's is far superior functionally than 7's. It's good to be able to do math and hex calculations without constantly swapping back and forth.

I've tried a few freeware calculators in the past but none were as easy or designed as nicely as XP's was.

Here's why I want XP instead of windows 7s calculator



I can, with a single click of the mouse and no menu navigation or keyboard commands, switch from decimal to hexadecimal. Doing so instantly converts my former decimal value to hexadecimal and back again if I move back to DEC format. Scientific format does it fine without needing some pointless,to me, programmers version.

It is a minor thing, true, but when I work with my hex editor and just need quick conversions, I don't need the fancy stuff.

I grabbed a copy of XP calc from a friend for this attachment. Much more effective even without the "history" that doesn't work very well anyway.

calc.exe from XP runs fine under Win 7. If you don't have access to a XP system, you can install XP Mode and copy it from there Sort of overkill for one little file.

Just use the Programmer View. It has everything to work with Hex and computer calculations in general.
None of the "Scientific" functions are required.

The point is I don't want to have to switch between programmer and scientific. With the XP calculator, I don't have to.

I can't use a decimal point, for example, when I leave it on programmer. Switching is not a huge deal, but it's very annoying when I just want a quick calculation and try to enter them and suddenly the period doesn't work.

You're absolutely right the Windows 7 calc is un-usable after having used the XP calculator for years. They obviously got someone who never used it to revamp it.

What is it with Microsoft. They meddled with Windows 8 and nobody liked it. It's the same thinking with the calculator

Yup, that works, but why? The new one has actually more options than the old one.
But not being a mathematician, if it adds and subtracts, multiplies and divides, it works for me.
I keep a shortcut to Calc in my Task Bar.

However, I can't stand what they did to my old friend Sol.exe. Screwed it up beyond belief.

So I just copied sol.exe and cards.dll from Windows XP and plunked them down in my root directory, made a shortcut to sol.exe on my desktop, and now I can play my old favorite Solitaire just like I did when I was running XP.

Never thought I'd be saying this, but the Win10 calculator beats 'em all. Hex, Dec, Oct, Bin - all displayed at once



also converts my weight into 0.03 of an elephant . . .
