Hi

Have you updated the drivers for your sound-card (whether it's on-board or dedicated) ?

I have updated and it simply says that all is find.

I removed the card in device manager, re-installed it and its still the same.

It is an onboard "High Definition Audio Device".

I use the three cables supplied to link it to the 3 rear 3.5mm jacks as I had done with vista but with windows 7 it just doesn't work.

Hi

Thanks for that :)

  1. Are you using the latest drivers or are you using device manager to find updates for you?
  2. Could you post a snip of your device manager with the audio device expanded?
  3. Could you also post a snip of your playback device configuration? Go to your system tray>right-click the speaker icon>select playback devices>select the device with the green check-mark(tick)>select configure
Regards

It is an onboard "High Definition Audio Device".

Means you haven't installed the driver for the onboard audio and it is running off of the default Windows audio driver. Follow the link Lomai posted to get the proper driver for it and then you will have the same control panel you had in Vista and that p5bdkw posted.

All that is is the release notes, that is not the driver. You need to download the first one (83751k), that is the driver file.

Stormy--if I interpret his writing correctly, he downloaded the zipped version of the one you referred to---the one beneath the readme, not the readme itself.

Have you turned off all special effects (reverb, equalizer, etc)?

Have you experimented with different settings under "default format"--something other than DVD quality, 16 bit, 48000k?? I have heard recently of this having a noticeable effect on playback quality.

I am using 16 bit, CD quality, 44100 Hz and have no issues.

Do you have Packard Bell iMedia XS series 4242 desktop?? Your specs don't mention XS series, but I can't find a 4242 in the regular iMedia series.

If so, I wonder if you have the right driver?

Looking at Packard Bell UK website:

Support Download

and then navigating to XS iMedia 4242, I come to the link in the pic below.

Note that you cannot choose Windows 7 32 bit at that link. Only 64 bit.

Note that it also says "this page shows only drivers that are not contained in Windows 7".

Note that XP and Vista have a red X which I assume means no drivers available. I certainly don't see any.

I take the above to mean that Packard Bell has no 32 bit drivers for audio on Windows 7 for this PC.

Can you post the link at Realtek where you found the drivers that you recently downloaded??

The PC was an "Imedia 4242" and is so old that it isnt even shown on the Packard Bell website any more. I had tried there first.

Have you set the Realtek as the default playback device? As long as the Logitech headset (USB no doubt, which if it is doesn't use the onboard audio at all) is set as the default you won't be able to use or configure your speakers.
