Can not see HD in my computer

Hello all! I am trying out 7 and one of the problems I am having is that I can see a few of my hard drives in my computer how ever I can not get one of them to appear. I can see it in device manager though. It is a Maxtor Sata. From device manager it says that the drive is ok and ready for use. If try to update the drivers it tells me that the drive already has the most up to date drivers.
Any advice would be welcomed!

Hello Danny, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Is the hard drive empty by chance?

If not, then double check in Disk Management to see if the hard drive was assigned a drive letter. The tutorial below can help show you how to check and add a letter for the drive if needed.

Thank you for your response.
From the disk management screen I can not see it in the top portion of the window. At the bottom window I can see it however its says "disk2" with a yellow exclamation point. It also says dynamic below that and below that it says "foreign" The drive SHOULD have file on it unless something has gone horribly wrong.

Could you post a screenshot of Disk Management with this? It will help us make sure that we advise you properly on this.

Here is the screen shot of the comp mngr and the device mngr. The hard drive letters you see in comp mngr are as folows ( I think ).

C- main drive
D- partition of C
F- storage drive
G- storage drive
H- (not really sure but its only 85 megs so I assume some kind of partition of another drive.

What type of drive is this? You might see if shutdown, disconnecting it, restart, shutdown, reconnect it, restart may help detect it properly.

From looking at your Device Manager image, it looks like you need to install a Firewire driver.

It is a Maxtor STM3200820AS ATA. I took your advice and try disconnecting it several times. Tried move it to other SATA ports and using different sata cables. I just cant understand why I can see it is device manager and other places and the device manager says the device is ok, but I can not see it in my computer. Any other suggestions pleaseee?

It would appear it has gone horribly wrong ...

How were the contents of the drive created? If you right-click on the left square with the "!" , do you see an option "Convert to MBR" or "Convert to GPT"?

The drive itself is OK, it's the contents in it that are bugging Windows. It doesn't recognize what's in it, other than as a dynamic disk it can't digest.

In other words, you're not getting any data out of it as it is. Can you live with just being able to reconfigure it and use it, or do you need what at some point was in there? I sure hope not.

Actually it looks like he may have a SATA Controller driver misfunction. I would recommend installing new SATA drivers as this might fix it. I had a similar issue on my vista desktop where some of my HDs were recognized while the black sheep one was found but never readable. I updated the drivers and boom there you go....
