Solved Help! BSOD using torrent clients (utorrent, Txati)

Hello Everybody,

thats my first thread, so thanks for having me !

I regularly get bluescreens(mostly 0x000000d1, NETIO.sys), short after (10-20 mins) starting my torrent client and downloading files. I also have the impression the likelyhood of BSOD rises with the download load. System has been running without problems for 3-4 years now. I didnt make any major changes and suddenly, about 2-3 weeks ago i got the first BSOD while running utorrent. and from there on everytime a short time after doonloading i get these BSODs!
Other than that system works like a charm.
I ve already searched plenty on the net concerning this issue, seems like a lot of ppl have it, but many for different reasons. Dump files are attached. I tried checking them myself with windbg and "lm t n" but quite frankly i have no idea what to look for. I dont understand half the stuff it says there. I hoped some skilled debuggers here on the forums could have a look at the .dmp file and maybe tell me what the problem is.

Blamed on Netio.sys, which often is caused by the malware app you are using.


I do notice Kaspersky which is a frequent cause of BSOD's. I would remove and replace it with Microsoft Security Essentials at least to test.

I also notice a 5 year old driver Related to SyncroSoft security products. Note: Located in \%Program Files%\SyncroSoft\Pos\H2O\. Have to be updated or removed.

zigzag3143 - isn't it a bit presumptuous to call uTorrent malware? It's a perfectly legit application - what you download with it is a completely different question.

One thing to note about it (and just about any torrent client), though, is that it will open a lot more TCP connections simultaneously than most other Internet applications would. Sometimes that's what the network drivers can't cope with and then they crash.
The easy fix is to simply limit the maximum allowed connections to something around 150-200 or even less.

First I was referring to his malware removal app (Kaspersky), so I do believe you misunderstood.

Second, though utorrent is not malware, the downloading of torrents from disreputable sources is often a method of infection.

Ive seen this post quite often, mostly in connection with mcaffe. ive actually grown quite fond of Kaspersky, has proactively saved my ass a couple of times! Plus the system has worked perfectly with utorrent and kaspersky for years, can you tell me how its possible that suddenly it doesnt anymore? i would really like to know out of interest in how this stuff worx! I dont wanna be a wise ass and am gratefull that you took the time to check my problem, but out of curiosity: is the solution to uninstall your Anti-Vir/ Firewall suite in connection with Netio.sys errrors, just a standard thing to say or is there acctually a specific reason based on my system configuration/software/driver setup that makes you say that? And in which way is MSSE better? why would it solve the problem?
So id b very sad if it were, never download torrents again or get rid of kaspersky! ill temporarly give it a try though and see what happenz! Deleted the syncrosoft drivers and gonna give that a try 2!

BSOD's dont exist in a vacuum. They are a combination of factors. hey may work for years and years, and perhaps one day a windows update, or a driver for something else is installed. Thats when BSOD's happen.

Either or. BSOD analysis is as much art as it is science. There are of course signs and symptoms that literally jump off the page.

I did not say MSE is "better", just that it is much less likely to cause BSOD's than Kaspersky

DMP file are analyzed by using special tools. There is a steep learning curve to getting a handle on the subject. If you want to peek there is an app called Blue screen view (by nirsoft) that will let you see the setup. DONOT use it for analysis as it often erroneously blames OS files when the underlying cause is something else.

I am all for people asking questions and in fact learning how to do them on their own. We can only help you fix your computer and the more you know the faster you get fixed.

We can just suggest (obviously) whet you do with the info is up to you. I usually say remove the app at least to test and you can always re-install it later.

It would make sense that MS would know how to integrated something int the OS, whereas the other mfrs wouldnt (they dont have access to the code)

Update:

I geuss i rejoiced to early had another BSOD, same 0xd1 reason. I just dont get it!!!!! what suddenly happened!!!!! This time i could dl for over 6 hours until it happened. So solution aint the syncrosoft driver. time to kill Kaspersky and see what happenz. It seems as though it aint acctually the torrent client that is triggering the problem but the overal download speed or connections coming in and since i changed from utorrent to tixat and my dl speeds are lower i can dl for a longer time. the new .dmp files attatched maybe you can have a quick look to see if anything changed in comparison to the other files u looked at.

Deleted Kaspersky, installed MSE! from my last post til now been downloading no problems, just had BSOD now though! didnt write a dmp file for some reason tho (was remotley connected). PLS help! what else can i do ?

Tried driver verifier! (verifier.exe)! gave me a 0x9c (or c9?), on a deamon tools related driver! couldnt start windows after that and had to use start helper, and load a recovery point! Uninstalled Deamon tools(never use it neway) and reinstalled kaspersky (since uninstalling didnt help with the BSODs)! had another bsod! PLS HELP!!

The most recent are blamed on netio.sys and often that is really caused by your malware app. Before you re-install I would remove kaspersky at least to test. It might save you a whole lot of effort
