Just done with disk check, nothing out of the ordinairy.
I don't think it is the memory, (seen the actual part while cleaning, looked perfectly fine)

This is really getting me down

Do you have any idea what causes the bugcheck to make it crash
(asin whats the damm cause of this thing?)
I really don't want to go to the store and replace the pc....

Thanks for all the help i hope you pc geniuses ;) can figure out what just keeps causing this error.

These steps are necessary to narrow down the cause. I am running short on ideas as to what is causing it, which is a good thing, so we are making progress.

Quote:
Use this technique to "reset" your pagefile:
a ) Go to Start...Run...and type in "sysdm.cpl" (without the quotes) and press Enter.
-Then click on the Advanced tab,
-then on the Performance Settings Button,
-then on the next Advanced tab,
-then on the Virtual Memory Change button.
b ) In this window, note down the current settings for your pagefile (so you can restore them later on).
-Then click on the "No paging file" radio button, and
- then on the "Set" button. Be sure, if you have multiple hard drives, that you ensure that the paging file is set to 0 on all of them.
-Click OK to exit the dialogs.
c ) Reboot (this will remove the pagefile from your system)
d ) Then go back in following the directions in step a ) and re-enter the settings that you wrote down in step b ). Follow the steps all the way through (and including) the reboot.
e ) Once you've rebooted this second time, go back in and check to make sure that the settings are as they're supposed to be.

Hey, im having a hard time finding the correct driver
The intel specs are
Intel 2nd generation i7 core: i7-2630QM
Intel HD graphics family 3000
Pc model is acer aspire 5750g

Last driver is from 2010 so this may be the cause.
Please help me here

Try reverting to an older nvidia driver. ie From the 275.xx series.

The 28xx.xx+ series introduced the 116 error, but the latest beta was 'supposed' to have fixed it, although for your mobile GPU chip, it doesn't look like it.

And since you'd be reverting to an older diver, a driver sweeper install outlined in a previous post would be advisable.

And unless you actually use the HD audio and 3D vision, select a custom install and only install the video driver (and physX). Untick 3d vision, hd audio, update etc.

If still getting TDR's on an older and known to be stabler driver - then you can start focusing elsewhere.

Follow Smarteyeball's instructions first. They seem to be right on the money. If you still decide you want the latest Intel driver, check Intel® Driver Update Utility and let Intel determine the appropriate driver for the hardware it detects.

Then let's hope this fixes the TDR 116 :)
Ill report as soon as either skyrim runs or crashes during a test.

Aha found the issue with PHYS-X
It seems the removing of the driver and using driver sweeper does NOT delete phys-x
So the installation program couldn't install because an newer version is installed.
Should i use the newer version of PHYS-X or the one within the installation of 275.33/275.50?

Sorry, I forgot to mention PhysX is 'standalone' :o It actually doesn't matter too much if you use the newer physx with the older driver and since Skyrim doesn't doesn't support physx, it matters even less in this case.

One downside to reverting to older drivers is that you'll lose some of the game specific optimizations of the newer drivers, but in this case stability is more important than a few optimizations :)

The intel driver *may* be an issue if the laptop is using Optimus - Optimus is where the the integrated GPUS switch between the intel GPU on the CPU and the dedicated nvidia GPU depending on load.

Ideally when under full 3D load (like in Skyrim) the nvidia GPU is doing the work. In low 2D loads, the intel GPU takes over. If you still experience crashing with the older driver, it's a possibility that there may be some 'handover issues' (The GPU switching gets 'confused') resulting in the TDR.

Good luck :)

Are there ways to make the handoff smoother between the two GPUs? This is all new information to me, and very informative. Appreciate your knowledge and your willingness to share it. :)

Aside from disabling the intel GPU, unfortunately I'm not sure if there is a way to 'force' an application to use a particular chip ensuring a smoother handover between the required powerstates.

(My whizzbang laptop has this feature disabled for some reason and I haven't had a chance to have a proper play with it)

I'd share more if I could :(

Still a couple more things to try:

  1. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...ation-conflicts-performing-clean-startup.html
  2. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html

If you need help getting the appropriate DVD for the repair install, we can help you find the ISO file to download and burn to disc. Just Google: windows 7 sp1 integrated iso offical direct download link

Also, after the repair install, install the older versions of the driver as suggested by smarteyeball

Albatross147, before the repair install, you could also try disabling your Intel GPU through device manager and see if it resolves the issue.
