Solved My.comp.wont.upgrade.to.Home.Premium....

After the factory reset, if your windows 7 has SP1 or not, just go ahead with Upgrade process by entering the anytime upgrade key before you install any other software. I have tested the upgrade process on windows starter edition in VMWare with 1MB and it was successfully converted to HP and Ultimate. The Upgrade process is very simple and straightforward.

If your factory install is Windows Starter x86 edition and you have only 1MB of RAM, you better stick to x86. X64 needs atleast 4GB for satisfactory performance. Anyway, Windows Anytime Upgrade will not change the x86 to x64.

There is NO DIFFERENCE in the hardware requirements for any edition of Windows 7 to work - although some of the benefits of the higher editions do require higher-spec hardware to work properly (such as a decent set of speakers<g>), all other functions will still work.

Wow. Okay then. Uhm, how do I create the Windows.old folder? And I'm going to start a clean backup today, so I'm going to delete files and stuff, along with reorganizing them and stuff, ultimately leading to the factory reset to be tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.

I don't know why you want a windows.old, that is from a repair or upgrade install, windows creates it you don't.

Just move the items you want to keep to your external, do the factory restore, then the anytime upgrade.

I don't understand why you are dragging this out so long... the water is fine, dive in.

I'm soaked already :)

It's amazing how much procrastination people can get up to when they really try.
A full system backup to external media on a Starter machine should probably take an hour or two at most (there won't be much in the way of media files, presumably), unless it's done by burning CD's.

pivotstudent.
Just back everything up, and worry about tidying it up when you bring it back in!

Gracias mi amigo! Lol. But seriously. Thanks. I'm going to backup the data tomorrow morning. A little too late now. And I'll tell my mom I'm going to do the restore, since she told me to do it since this netbook will eventually be hers once I get my new laptop. Its great since she'll be saving $120 at Office Depot and because I might get it upgraded to Home Premium for free. So BAM. Insta 200 Bucks saved for her. :D
