BSOD after restart, unmountable boot error 0x000000ED

After about ten minutes, Windows Defender Offline stalls. The "time elapsed" counter stops going, as does the "items scanned" counter, and I can't cancel the scan, but the shimmering bar animation does not freeze up.

There are also small bursts of disk activity (disk loading sounds, and light is lit up), with about four second intervals, while WDO is stalled.
Since you made the WDO on another machine (one that works) and you booted from DVD a virus can't be running now. It must be:

  • A faulty DVD (very unlikely... it did scan a lot of stuff)
  • A faulty DVD drive (very unlikely it has already loaded in memory all it needs)
Did it continue to run after a few minutes? animation bar is still shimmering. And disk activity... WDO isn't stalled at all! Please boot it again from dvd.... does it stop at same spot?

Is it a western digital disk or seagate disk? I think the disk is faulty.

It took letting it work overnight, but the scan actually did finish. It found two Exploits (which is odd, because I thought I had scans set up to try to pick things up every Tuesday...)
"Exploit:Java/CVE-2013-0422
Exploit:Java/CVE-2013-1723"

did it clean the stuff? (still can't believe that's the cause of boot problem)

I asked you to do:
#62
Also boot into advanced boot options and do a memory check Memory Diagnostics Tool

Also make a backup of all your data on C #16

You must be sure disk is working fine and memory as well

It's still in the process of cleaning those things out, but after it's done I'll run the Memory Diagostics Tool, and boot it into Safe Mode to look at the report.

The report of what the Memory Diagnostics Tool found and did.
Also, yes there is disk activity as it tries to boot into Safe Mode, much like I described the activity during the WDO scan: sounds and active light with four-second intervals. The circle animation is frozen in place for much of that time.
It does boot up eventually; it just takes a long time (at least a half hour).

And as for what hard disk it is, I'd have to check (likely by going into Safe Mode and checking Device Manager).

Do you have a seagate or western digital disk? run msinfo32 then storage->disks to see the info. Look at "model"

Try booting normally... what error do you get? Or does it take an hour or so to boot? watch the disk light flashing or some animation on screen to see if it's still trying to boot.

Why didn't I say it before? Because the time I checked before the WDO scan was the first time it booted up successfully in Safe Mode.
I'll check with msinfo32, but that'll have to wait; those two threats are still being removed.

So it suddenly booted in safe mode succesfully or you just didn't wait long enough before? Or did WDO fix some things that made it bootable (don't think so... WDO is still running)

There's also a seatools for windows. And datalifeguard for windows. You can install it in windows if it can boot to safe mode.

I didn't wait long enough. With these other tasks, it doesn't seem like a good idea to stay in one place for long; otherwise, I'm wasting everyone's time on here staring at the same screen when I could be finding out the model of my hard drive or finishing my backup.

Quick Update: The removal finished, but one of the exploits (CVE-2012-1723) popped up again. I tried having WDO remove it again, but the exploit's status is now "Not Found". A false positive?

Make a backup. Check your memory. Check the disk. Post back tomorrow the results

Does anyone have the WAIK .iso file handy for Macrium Reflect? I'm trying to download it so I can make a rescue disc, but the download is having trouble finishing before the network times out.

I'd just like to use my browser to download it because the browser can at least store what's downloaded instead of Reflect forcing me to start all over again and again.

Update: Nevermind. Backing up C drive now.

...Or I WOULD back it up, if I didn't find out that I have to buy the premium edition of Macrium. Now what?

Also, I checked in the device manager and the hard disk is actually of the Hitachi brand: "Hitachi HTS545032B9A300", to be exact.

Why backup only C? Post screenshot of disk management and I'll tell you what partitiions are important to backup.

Why do you need premium edition of macrium? macrium reflect free is enough! Be sure to use thw winpe version... it can restore partitions to another spot on disk. Otherwise you can't restore to a smaller disk

Here's the image you wanted from the winpe.
Do you have a valid product key (just in case you have to reinstall)? It has Certificate Of Authority" on it. Most likely on back of laptop. Or under battery. Machine was bought with win7?
