Solved Random freezes - Seven Professional x64

I also need the quicktime codec.... see my avatar.
You may easily use QuickTime Alternative.
Wow, thanks for that :)

I never really wanted QuickTime, I just needed the codec. I got rid of the driver and QuickTime and will update as it progresses.

Sorry for the bump, it's just that I really need help with this, and if I'm going to do a system restore I'd just rather reinstall windows as a whole, which is something I don't want to do anytime soon.

Are you still running MucAfee? Get rid of it completely by running the |MG| McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool 6.5.101.0 Download and then complete and report back on each of the Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7
Will edit to complete with each of the steps.

1. All scans came back clean; not malware.
2. Nope, still freezing
3. Doing it atm, will report back
4. Did that, found nothing
5. Also tried this, but to no avail
6. This never works for anything, and this time it wasn't an exception
7. Second on to-do list.
8. Passed.
9. Passed.
10. Checked, no loose cables or anything
11. Not overheating, have looked into that already
12. An Ethernet port driver is missing (Which I never used, btw), and the driver that caused the BSOD was removed, so one of three of the CD/DVD-ROM Drive drivers is missing
13. I believe they're all up to date, but I can check
14. Installed the OS myself
15. Not doing that for the sixth time
16. If I ever need to do this, I'll just reinstall windows.
17. Could try this before a clean reinstall.

Why are you so opposed to doing a simple System Restore to before the problem began? It takes minutes and is nothing comparable to reinstalling Win7.

A Repair Install may help but not if the problem is in hardware or settings of the OS or a program which are transferred back in.

MucAfee's corruption is so deep that I would reinstall, especially if this is the original factory preinstall which is a corrupt worst-possible install anyway.

It's not that I'm opposed, it's just that I'll lose a ton of things which I don't really know what; if I reinstall, I'll just backup all I need and we're done.

Not counting the fact that I don't know if I have a restore point. I'll look into it, though.

System Restore will tell you exactly what programs will need to be reinstalled, but no files are affected. However you should always have all of your files backed up anyway.

You'd really need a Restore point before the problem began, however.

OK, no old restore points. Guess that leaves us without that option.

EDIT: Also, why all the hate on McAfee? Any other AVs you recommend?

You've had this explained several times to you now based on what we have seen here since before Win7 was even released. No one here would even consider running MucAfee, and if one has it I would only feel good about the install if it had a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

But you can try the removal tool, which is incidentally only required for removing the worst infections.

Lol ... no hate on McAfee. We dont pay it that much importance. :)
MCAfee .... if present there in the system, it causes much nuisance than a virus. So we suggest the users to get rid of it. We have noticed a really real big number of weird issues caused by that program, and removing that program cured the system.

All AVs (other than McAfee) are good. But from a BSOD perspective, we suggest the the AV that is most light on the system ..... Microsoft Security Essentials

Many of us using it, over years, and never faced any issue. Neither virus nor BSOD. So we trust on it.

Some other on demand scanners we use alongwith MSE, those are free MBAM and Windows Defender Offline

We're getting a little bit off-topic here but I think that doesn't matter much, because this might take long. I followed the instructions on the safe boot page and it still didn't freeze. Let's see how it goes. Hopefully, we will find the problem :)

So, I'll look into this matter but I'll need to replace McAfee with some other AV, and as far as I'm concerned, all the free ones (or at least most of them), except MSE, aren't exactly /good/. I'm thinking Avira, Kaspersky or Vipre... what do you think?

Also can I trust McAfee's removal tool? I mean, will it really remove everything? I've never heard much complaints about it...

EDIT: I can reinstall Windows as many times as I want with the same key on this computer, right?

I would go with MSE and on-demand scanners such as Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware. These programs have caused no problems for me, and are updated almost daily especially MSE.

I tried the clean boot and after it froze, I went back to msconfig to check again and I had forgotten some services, dumb me. Now this time it's for real, set it up around 40 minutes ago and will update :)

On a side note, thanks for the help, guys, you've been super helpful and this is absolutely the best Windows 7 support forum I've ever visited, thanks.

EDIT: Drivers updated, finally

EDIT 2: Did I say video? These are already up to date, I meant audio card drivers =/

You'd already have the Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 done in a couple of hours compared to the days you've spent on this, plus you'd have the best possible install instead of the crippled one you have now.

It is a specialty of these forums where we've helped countless thousands get a perfect install, so why not take advantage of it and have a better install than 90% of the users out there, resolve your problems, and learn the tips to getting and keeping a perfect install?
