Is it possible to sell a used windows 7 disk?

Hi,

I have a windows 7 home disc which I have installed on my desktop machine. I am not actively using this machine any more and will probably install Linux on it, have no use for the disk and would like to sell this disk.

Is this possible? How would I got about de-registering the disk?

Hi there .... If its an OEM copy no you cant sell it ... How ever if is Retail then no bother .....

If this is a retail disk, you may sell it once all trace of the original installation is removed from any system it is currently installed on, even if it is not used. The buyer will likely have to activate by telephone, as your installation will be retained in the MS database, until it is actioned at Microsoft, and they should be made aware of this. To comply with the MS EULA you should include all original packaging including the Certificate of authenticity.

If this is a pre-installed or purchased OEM copy it may only be sold with the complete system it is installed on

Interesting to hear how you get on selling it. I wonder what the demand is now for used Win 7 Discs!

Yeah I will let you know, I am hoping for £40. Worst part is when I bought it I installed it without realising home doesn't have Remote Desktop so ended up having to upgrade on-line to Ultimate. Very expensive exercise.

Would have been a lot cheaper to grab yourself a copy of Teamviewer - More advanced than remote desktop - free for personal use - cheaper than the ultimate upgrade if for business

Considering win-7 home premium fresh install disks are at tigerdirect for 99 u.s. I can't see anyone actually buying a used disk from someone other than a reputable company,
One is usually born every second/ minute but it's still very iffy at best ?

Throw it in the trash if you don`t want it, it`s useless without a key, and why would someone buy something they can download for free from the legitimate download site.

If you know someone with a windows 7 pc, give it to them, they might need it sometime.

£8.20 atm. I guess people in the UK don't have the throwaway attitude of our cousins in the US

Windows 7 is and still will be a hot Item about 2 months ago I bought 2 copies for $60.00

I found this deal out of thin air I'm sure if someone looked hard enough they can buy Windows 7 Home premium with out the service pack for $30.00 and then later download the service pack

Reason I got two copies with a service pack for $30.00 dollars a piece is because they didn't have them in stock anymore and I pretty much told them they have to honor their ad and the Manager complied

So with that being said I wouldn't go fooling with anyone selling a street copy without a key sounds like a bad drug deal you get burned you can't tell the police and you can't revenge on the dealer better to just be legit and call it a day less hassel

Well if the copy of windows 8 which came pre-installed on my laptop is anything to go by I can see windows 7 being popular for a while.

I have a key btw, no burning going on here.

Earlier in this thread the OP said he had bought a retail copy of Windows 7 and that I believe is the one he is selling. He is going to or has taken it off the PC that he installed it on in favor of Linux so it is a legit copy with licence key that he is legally entitle to sell. I will bid for it later. I think if you can buy a copies for $35 or about £30 then in 12 months time you will probably get a 50% profit on it. Worth the gamble I think!

I don't believe the uk has the law federal laws and enforcement as the u.s. either,
Copy rights in the u.s. is a bit more enforced here,
But if a person was to do a crime most suggest a federal crime is a bit better because of Conjugal visits are permitted
