Win7 Ultimate, fresh install over Vista OEM, she has no clue where the key is. That is the only reason I didn't just save her files and re-install.

I got to that screen, but never saw anywhere to see what drivers were missing.

Download this ProduKey - Recover lost product key (CD-Key) of Windows/MS-Office/SQL Server
The zip file. Extract the zip and put the files on root folder of usb stick.
Attach usb stick to sick system. Boot to recovery environment. Determine drive letter of usb disk

dir D:\
dir E:\
et cetera

Now you know the drive letter assume R

R:\produkey  /external

Do you have another win7 machine and know its product key? If so.. run the produkey program there and see if it displays correct number.

Write the win7 productkey of sick machine on paper. o looks like 0, 1 looks like I but heay aren't used.

But 8 looks like B!! Write it down correctly!!

In recovery environment

diskpart
list  disk (write down the number of internal disk)
select disk x (replace x with correct disk number)
clean
exit

Now everything is gone on internal disk, even mbr virus.

then clean install win7. No need to backup personal files?

stop 7b means: Usual causes: Hard drive, File system, Boot sequence errors, Device driver, Virus infection (in particular check the MBR)

you did check: memory, disk disagnostics, checkdisk
Bootsequence is fine (is corrected by startup repair anyway)
3rd party device drivers for sata/ide have been uninstalled. (paragon restore p2p adjust OS should fix that).

Only cause I can think of: Virus.

In a attachment FRST.TXT I saw 3 partitions on disk. 2 for recovery (from manufacturer for VISTA). these are not needed anymore. Win7 partition is not needed anymore because you're going to reinstall.

So nothing on disk is needed.

So CLEAN the disk... then all is gone and you have an totally empty disk.

But how about personal files still on C?

Looking at your FRST.txt file you indeed have a rootkit . I suggest you open up a thread inside the System Security section and upload the FRST.txt file there .
