stop WMP from importing music

Hello,
In older versions of Windows, I had the ability to tell WMP not to import my music files. How do I do that in Windows 7?

You can choose which folders are monitored by WMP, and also change which media files are automatically added to the Player Library when played

Taking the monitored folder out of the mix also removed all of my music out of the Windows library (still available under C: drive)! I re-added it, but having WMP stop monitoring the folder isn't the answer.

It's not an autoplay issue - this is specific to booting WMP and having it automatically import all my music files, whether or not there's a CD in the tray.

Most people get mad when wmp does not show Imported content,
I seem to be missing the point of Importing files ?
wmp reads files in a folder/ My Music....
If your files are being removed when removing the default folder locations I would Import to a folder not being archived/ A new library...

Now there's an idea. I can create a new folder called, say My Tunes, and put my music in there... Thanks.

This new object/ folder would have to be a new library or located behind a partition which D-drive is a common drive letter for most consumer machines,
Then you can add a new library to this folder on the D-drive,

I recall wrestling with this issue on my Windows 8 computer as well, where WMP insisted on importing EVERYTHING in the Music library (audio books, ringtones, misc sound files, etc.), no matter what sub-folder I put them in. In order to keep my music out of WMP, I moved it to C: drive in a new folder not associated with a library, and had to go find it every time I wanted to access something - quite inconvenient. Now that I have a Windows 7 computer, I was hoping there was something I'd missed in the WMP settings, but seemingly not. I like using WMP from time to time, but don't want it clogged up with all my music files.

Microsoft, why did you remove our ability to choose whether or not WMP imports files from the default location??? Please give your many millions of users the ability to choose whether or not they want WMP to manage their music by restoring the option to import files from the default monitored folder!

I don't believe Microsoft is listening here but "If" you don't already have a Partition on the C-drive it's really safer and not very hard to do/ Well Brink makes it easy

FWIW,
I don't believe it gets better in Windows 8 it uses basically the same library system so if heard,
Most people rely on External storage devices hdd's to isolate corruption,
