Jack about QVL lists, this is from Tradesman on GSkill forums who builds a lot professionally and is in contact with several board companies. First there are 1000's of different RAMs on the market, no company can or is willing to test them all.

To get RAM on the QVL list they will put in a set at random, if it boots at default board settings, it's qualified. So if they test 2400MHz ram and "test" it, that is only running at 1600 or even 1333 at default, depending on the series of CPU. For Intel 7x series chipset and Ivy Bridge and Z8X Haswell too, the default is 1600, I'm unsure of the AMD.

If this is your sets of TridentX, the X79 Sabertooth isn't on G.Skill's QVL, they do do some extensive tests.

Since you got your stuff through a middleman of sorts, can't he get a refund or a replacement for you?

Gary, No X79 boards are on G Skill's QVL. They may not have tested it with that chipset. They run fine on Paul's X79 board.

Hmm... I've never checked any board or memory vendor for compatibility with each other. I just assumed that if they were name brand, they ran with each other.... even if not listed.

Don't forget, a lot of boards and memory have been around so you can pretty much bet they're compatible. At least that's my reasoning.

On the flipside I've been using Gigabyte MB's and Corsair memory for the last 4 years so...

Gary, my point was really that his supplier said that ram won't run on the board. They do. Even with Jack, half of it runs fine. It isn't recognizing the other half. His supplier is wrong, it will run 2400 MHz ram. Paul runs it on an X79 board. Even if his supplier was right, run it at 1600 MHz and it should run fine, it won't. The problem is the board not the ram.

@Jack. To find out for sure, take the ram out of the slots the board does recognize and only leave the ram in the slots it won't recognize. That removes from the equation that you are overwhelming the memory controller. If it still won't boot, I think it shows, those slots are bad. If it won't boot, take the ram from the bad slots and put them in the good slots, the exact same sticks. If it boots, that's pretty much proof the slots are bad, not an issue with the ram.

Agree on the ECC RAM, that's where you have to be careful. However who's really using ECC RAM nowadays

Jeannie, the typical general life expancy of a CPU is 10 years. As long as you are reasonable, which I fully admit, I'm not. overclocking a CPU may bring the life expancty to 8 or 9 years. There are exceptions to everything, of course. That's OK with me. I fully expect, if I am fortunate enough to live another 8 years, I will have upgraded my board and CPU by then. You too, I suspect.

Supposedly, as long as you stay under 1.4V, an Ivy-e, and I presume Sandy-E, does not degrade the CPU. This is according to OCN, who know all things about overclocking. Many of the members there regularly speak to the higher ups at Asus and Intel. One in particular's father is a 'higher up' at Intel.

News:
At the present time I have 16 GB @ 1600 installed in slots.
A1-B1-D1-C1
The bad slots are posting in bios as they should.
What I'm checking is if the motherboard and cpu are able to handle 32 GB as advertised.
I'm still unable to run a WEI it stops in the middle of the ram test.

The problem with the QLV list is it leaves a big back door for the motherboard/cpu manufacturers to run and hide. I can speak from personal experience Asus will use that back door.
If your ram isn't on the QLV list they always blame it on the ram.
Ladies and gentlemen I believe you all over a QLV list.

I can't ever find the report when it is done.
What is the best place to get Memory 86 download?

Right here Jack, Windows test is crap in my opinion. there are two memtest86+ out which we use, 4.20 and 5.01. The newer one is supposedly for Intel 3rd gen and up. I've used both. If using the 5.01, press F2 when it starts to use all of your CPU sores.

That's a nice board but you are not going to swap out your current board for that one are you ?

At this time I'm not sure what to do. I get the very strong impression Asus is going to run and hide.

If it was my money and time, I would go to ASUS again through your supplier. If he is worth his salt, he'll get a new replacement for you, not someone else's return.
