Windows 7 Professional.
Tried various ways to disable built in administrater account. Elevated command prompt, Groups manager etc.
When I log off all seems Ok and only one logon icon shown. When the computer is powered off however the built in administrater icon appears.

So as long as i only log on and off one user logon icon. But as soon as shutdown/restart two icons.

Any help much appreciated.

Hi Britton30

The tutorial is the first thing I tried. I have also since found that I cannot change the password either. I can go to Control panel /management users and type in a new password but it is unchanged on reboot.

I suspect it may have something to do with Anvi Smart Defender. I have tried to uninstall this and although it uninstalls correctly it re-installs itself after reboot.

Any advice much appreciated - If it gets too desperate I will just do a re install of windows, although its a lot of work.

Many thanks for your time and expertise in this matter

This may seem complex but do one step at a time.

It seems Anvi Smart Defender is a rogue software not worth the bytes it's printed on. Anvi Smart Defender Review & Rating | PCMag.com There have been other reporting bad experiences and not being able to uninstall it. As the article says it quarantines valid Windows files.

First thing to try, go into the Defender's options, find Quarantine and let it restore any and all items there. If it has disabled system files that could explain your problems.

In my sig is a link to Revo Uninstaller, run it and use the Medium clean up settings. Download CCleaner, again, see my sig for the link, and run the registry cleaner at default settings. there is a video on another method to uninstall too.

The uninstaller referred to is on the YouTube page.

Let us know how it goes, there's more to try to avoid a reinstall. :)

Hi Britton30

Many thanks for your swift reply.

I have and use advanced uninstaller pro which also does registry cleaning, and seems to work pretty well. It also allows monitoring of processes and startup prevention (but not with Anvi).

I tried the ANVI soft rescue disc in desperation when I contracted ransomware from a trial program. Neither Kaspersky or Microsoft Security Essentials would touch it. MSE was running when I was infected, and the offline version was unable to detect or cure the infection. Subsequent examination by me indicated that the virus files were being renamed in wininnit.ini, and their location was in AppData/Roaming. But that's all sorted now from some time ago.

It may be that the video has a sound track, but for me it is silent.Trying to work out what he is doing in the removal video is not obvious. For instance in the last section he exports the registry, alters some ANVI type keys but never restores it. Likewise he never uninstalls it selecting no when offered the chance. Also to get the install path to display the files he uses a complex cut and paste of the install location instead of just right clicking the program shortcut and selecting open file location. I will write a list of the operations he does and try to figure out the correct commands to implement. Will post the info later on or tomorrow as I have work to do at present.

Many thanks

Best Regards

You're welcome, try the Revo as I suggested. True, the video has no sound and there is a link for the tool he used in the link below the video I posted, is it the same as you have/used?

I advise not to use the ANVI in any way. MSE is really weak too.

This is a free scanner and may take over an hour to run depending on your system and programs.

Here's a list of bootable rescue AVs, I've had good luck with Norton and Comodo.
